[Steelhawks] STEELHAWKS FACE MAMMOTHS IN HOME OPENER

Post by News » Mon Apr 30, 2018 12:06 am

Lehigh Valley Welcomes to the Hawks Nest Allentown, PA:  The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks 2018 Home Opener is this Saturday (April 21st) against the visiting Mammoths from Maine.  Kickoff will be at 7:05pm and will be viewable locally on Service Electric TV2 Sports.  This week’s game is presented by Service Electric Cable TV. The Steelhawks (0-1) had a disappointing performance on the road last week and lost to a dominant Columbus team.  Another week of practice and some roster moves in some key positions should help get the team back on track.  Among those is Defensive Back Brandon Fuentes, who joins the team after spending time with the Albany Empire of the Arena Football League. The Maine Mammoths (0-2) are a new franchise to the National Arena League.  After struggling in their Week One matchup, the Mammoths put together a strong performance against a good Carolina team last week.  They are led by arena veteran QB Jonathan Bane, a familiar foe for Lehigh Valley from the 2015 PIFL season. Each team’s offense has struggled during this young season to put points on the board – LV features two rookie Quarterbacks (Caleb Walton & Seth Higgins) surrounded by some veteran receivers (Charles McClain, Brandon Renford, Greg Betterson); while Maine has a veteran quarterback (Bane) playing with rookie wide receivers (Derrick Macon, Edgar Poe Jr, Tres Houston). With young offenses, the team whose defense can disrupt the attack the most will have the advantage. Johnnie Lustig’s Frankfurters Keys to the Game for the Steelhawks:
  • Protect the pocket
  • Establish a run game
  • Be effective on special teams
The Steelhawks return to the Nest next week when the Pirates from Massachusetts come to town. The previously scheduled Saturday night game has been MOVED to Sunday evening, April 29th at 6:00pm on Embassy Bank Field inside the PPL Center due to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the American Hockey League hosting their Calder Cup playoff contest. Call 610-224-4625 to reserve your seats!  All Steelhawks games are played on Embassy Bank Field inside the PPL Center.
