[Steelhawks] STEELHAWKS FALL LATE IN HOME OPENER

Post by News » Mon Apr 30, 2018 12:06 am

Lehigh Valley Falls at Home Allentown, PA:  The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks (0-2) battled for much of the game, but a fourth quarter collapse allowed the visiting Maine Mammoths (1-2) to get their first ever win. The Steelhawks started the game off with an eight-minute sustained drive to snag their first lead this season, all-be-it by three points.  Then the Mammoths went on their own five-minute drive, coming away with six points. Lehigh Valley used a trick play that saw their Quarterback Caleb Walton on the receiving end of a 20-yard pass from Kip Patton Jr. to get a touchdown and retake the lead. The second quarter saw both teams stall out on drives and turn the ball over on downs or missed field goals.  Maine scored the only points of the quarter after a 47-yard drive.  At halftime it was a two-point game, Mammoths leading. The third quarter wasn’t much more exciting, each team scoring a touchdown coupled with a few more turnovers – Lehigh Valley’s coming on downs, Maine’s on a failed fourth down and a fumble. By the numbers, Lehigh Valley overcame offensive ineptness – 173 yards of offense, 6 of 11 on third downs, 0 of 2 on fourth downs, 3 of 7 red-zone scores – to keep the game close heading into the fourth quarter only trailing by one. But the ’Hawks crumbled in the fourth – two fumbles in a row led to 14 points for the Mammoths, and two sacks stalled other drives. Maine outscored LV 27-7 to close out the game, taking home a 45-24 win. The Steelhawks are looking to rebound in their next game; they face a tough opponent in the Massachusetts Pirates (2-1) that are coming  off a tough hard fought loss to Carolina. That game will be Splayed on SUNDAY, April 29th at 6:00pm on Embassy Bank Field in the PPL Center, presented by Lehigh Valley Health Network.  *Game was previously scheduled for Saturday, April 28th but was moved due to the American Hockey League Calder Cup Playoffs* Single game tickets, three game packs and 2018 season ticket flex packages are on sale now.
