Spring Practice

Back-to-back PL champs 2016 and 2017.... but need to get back to relevance in the national FCS scene.

Sadly, I would bet on more attrition to come between now and August.

Hope not. Roster is about where it hopefully will stay. But, it is not unusualbto lose s few over the summer. Too many we will be back to a similar short roster .

Not surprising, especially with a changing of the guard viz coaching. Especially if not getting money and not liking some new rules and regs that the new regime has instituted.

Do we know what format Gilmore will be using on Saturday? Whether there will be tackling to the ground (doubtful), whether a game-type format or just controlled scrimmage for certain platoons and special teams?

Most interesting will the the QB competition, as the arms are assessed, the ability to recognize coverages and mobility. Punters/kickers also under a microscope after being spoiled for four years.

Weather should be great. Already looking forward to the tailgate!

Looking forward to it. Doubt we'll learn much tho. Unlike prior years we have had virtually no eyewitness views on practices. We may get a glimpse ofvwho's runningbin the 1s and 2s on O and D.

Some updates here from Keith Groller.

Sounds like Monaco's clear front-runner.

New WR coach.

Unfortunate that Shoup and Beesmer got a fraction of the reps Monaco got, from what I have been told. These two underclassman are talented. Uncovering the best QB requires even reps and getting younger kids up to speed in the offense. Then mechanics, mobility, IQ can be accurately assessed and the best kid plays. Watched it happen at Penn State practice last week with 3 way battle. Been following Lehigh football for many years...championships have been built on fierce but friendly competition. I’d hope summer and fall simply uncover the best player, not just at QB, but at every position. Can’t hand out positions at this level. Competition is only way out of this current slide.

Monaco always had the edge. That does not mean that Beesmer and Soup didnt get a lot of reps over the Spring. Lots of changes coming on both O and D. There are not likely to be any spots actually locked in until August camp.

Some actual good news. Morrow was accepted into LU grad school. Great for him and truthfully even better for us.
