Indoor Practice Facility?
Was curious about some of the "transformational capital projects" related to athletics that are being hinted at as a part of the GO campaign. Searched around a bit and came across these renderings of a full sized indoor practice facility...

Would be a boon to the whole athletic department and really help all outdoor sports that struggle with inclement weather. Curious when they will go public with this.

Nice. It would be my impression that this may be being dangled out there to attract a donor whose name would grace the entrance!

Re: Indoor Practice Facility?
Would be nice to see something like this open to the general population as well on the main campus.
Re: Indoor Practice Facility?
That would catch us up with Holy Cross. Hopefully it is not too far down the list for construction.
Re: Indoor Practice Facility?
The Pictures show something smaller than 90,000 sq ft (10,000 sq yards.) The picture shows like no more than 5 yards from the end like. 10,000 sq yards should should give you a 9+ yard cushion all around the 120 yard by 53.3333 yard playing field. Maybe there is something more at the other end.
Also curious if the South End (the end not shown) is a non loadbearing wall. If it is, some future project might make possible indoor practice infields for softball and baseball

Re: Indoor Practice Facility?
So how does this differ with the Rauch Fieldhouse? Does the latter become obsolete except for Indoor Track?

Would a bubble be a better investment? It would take a lot of research. It's what Boston College does; I've seen it and it's pretty cool.

If done, such a project might also be able to accommodate an array of upgrades at Goodman.

And, as I've said before. I think the Lehigh campus suffers badly from no longer having open fields on main campus, even just for pickup games.

I do recall playing snow football on the UC lawn often. Other than there, Upper Taylor was the only open field on campus. Great for bonfires but lethal for most any pick up games. Sayre Park was the site for intrmurals. Technically on campus but one hell of a walk up the mountain.
Re: Indoor Practice Facility?
Rauch has just in the last couple of years had a new track installed. Besides being used for Lehigh T+F, I think HS track meets occur there almost every weekend. Probably one of LU's best utilized facilities.
Since the new facility has grassfields, a track would be counter productive. New facility looks to be built for Football + Lacrosse, then Soccer+ Field hockey. I guess Rugby & as I said Baseball and Softball could benefit
Re: Indoor Practice Facility?
Rauch cannot accommodate a true football practice. Surface is 'rubberized'. You can do 'walk throughs', etc. significant limitations for football.
