Lehigh Athletics simply can’t ignore the outside forces of college football and televised sports forever.

They need one renovation more than any other – lights in order to open up the possibility of hosting late afternoon or early evening games.

Excellent article. What are the chances that this will actually happen?

Yeah, Goodman Stadium needs three upgrades in particular more than any others IMO:

1) Add lights
2) Add a video board
3) Improve the PA system

12-15 years ago The LU-Penn game in October was delayed for well over an hour because of Lightening. Sooner or later their will be a Thunderstorm during a November Football Game. Will that game be made up Sunday afternoon, or Monday afternoon? Or will we switch those Starting times to 10:30 AM like that Lafayette Game in the 90's.

Seems to me if Sterrett asks for $2 million for stadium and parking lights, the money will appear.

I think the video board would be money better spent to add 'juice' to the atmosphere. Night games will not draw any better due to compettion with High School games and people who'd rather not tailgate in the dark. IF we get a home game for playoffs, than bring in temporaries. Schools do that all the time. Now if a donor comes up with the money, then, certainly, you don't look a gift horse in the mouth, but if only U. money, I don't see any 'return' on the investment. I think you may have more incidents of people having schedule conflicts with night time games.

Seems like BASD stadium usually used Saturday nights. Our primary 'competitor', locally. A lot of money for the few times used. As said. don't look a gift horse in the mouth, but to me there are bigger priorities. I prefer a Saturday afternoon game with the tailgating.

Bethlehem and Allentown have 3 schools that use their stadiums, so each likely has 5 Saturday night games has except that since they play each other, it is more likely 2-3 Saturday night games a year. I doubt if there are even 12 scheduled Saturday night games a year in the whole valley. (probably more are played because of Friday night rain outs.)

Relative to our attendance, Lafayette's attendance seems like it is doubled since they got lights.

I am not sure why you can't tailgate at 4:30-6:30 instead of 10 to noon.

I think students would rather begin tailgating then rather than just after they get up.

Only possible reason that Sterrett isn't asking for $2M to do this is that Alumni a lot older than me don't want to drive home in the dark
