FACTS/PROBLEMS/SOLUTIONS

Post by datruph » Mon Sep 02, 2019 11:37 am

Very frustrated reading the ignorance of some people who post. Please here me out. Fact, we have won 8 games in the last two seasons. Fact, in 2018 our offense ranked 78 out of 124 teams. Fact, our completion percentage ranked 105 out of 124. Fact, our passing efficiency was 106 out of 124. Fact, our scoring offense was 114 out of 124. Fact, at one point our all-american qb had 3 tds and 10 picks. Fact, our defense ranked 93 out of 124. Fact, in 2017 our defense ranked 105 out of 124. Our offense was 93 out of 124 in 2017. Fact, the coaching regime chose not to start other players despite being blown out numerous times by 40 points. Fact, we had two all-americans on offense those two years and we were dreadful. Forward to 2019. Fact, we started 5 new guys on offense who were either freshman or new starters who were not afforded any play time prior because of poor coaching decisions. Fact, our o-line was beat up in 2017 and 2018 and guess what? It's already beat up this year and thin. These guys give there hearts out on the field but something must change. Fact, at halftime we had minus 8 yards rushing. Fact, we forced a new Qb to throw 51 times in his first official start. Fact, our defense and special teams are much improved. My point is, GET REAL FANS. These new guys gave there hearts out on that field and despite o-line issues still had the heart to mount a drive and almost win the game at the end. Our o-line is struggling and losing Curlin and Rosen things are not looking any better. Our rb and qb should be given a medal of honor for surviving the game. Our qb separated his left shoulder in the second quarter but never came out. Both the rb and qb kept peeling themselves off the ground and never gave up. The offensive problem has been identified. We run a progression offense that takes time for the qb to make his reads. We have receivers that are not getting separation on man coverage. We have no chance to run the ball. MISSION CONTROL, WE HAVE A PROBLEM. We need to run an offense that can disguise our problems. Quick passes, mis-direction and moving the pocket would help. The OC HAS TO SEE THIS. For two years we have struggled and we have started out this year the same or in a worse position on offense. No huddle, screens and bubbles. Get our rb in open space and throw him a quick pass. We need to motion receivers so they dont get manned up and can create space. I saw some great throws from the qb to guys that were covered like a rug. I know are rb can go. We found our tight end. We have some good young receivers. Time to put in an offense that works with what we have. Progression is definitely not it!!!TG is cleaning things up and getting rid of the scholarship hoarders and posers and replacing them with dedicated hard working guys. He's placing the new regime in a position where the old regime is resenting the change. This team is transitioning and by next year most of the posers will be gone. With Villanova and UC Davis lurking things are not getting better any time soon. I'm PRAYING WE STAY HEALTHY and then the fans will start seeing the change. These guys have busted there butts and to be criticized already is insane. Patience is a virtue and the real Lehigh fan will reap the fruits of there labor in the near future. SUPPORT THESE KIDS AND COACHES EFFORTS. For once we do have true leaders on this team...

Certainly loud. :) No knock on players for effort at all. Nor on the staff actually. We were outplayed for most of the game by SFU's D. OL is the issue. Not the players' fault at all. OL cohesion takes reps and time. These players have had little of either. Again we start season with a decimated group. No Curlin Fest or Evans. Now losing Rosen. An unenviable situation for Coach Z. Scheming may help a bit but that alone wont solve the issue. A rebuilding year is never fun. Just hope we can keep improving.

I have no debate about your analysis of the team. I just don't understand why you think your analysis is so much different then what most of the fans posted on the other thread.

Many fans came into this season with inflated expectations. Check..we noted that.
We have a brand new coaching staff wit a new system and it will take time to acclimate to it. Check.. we noted that
The key to the offense lies in the offensive line which is still in a state of disarray...we noted that too.
We expanded our offensive weapons by throwing to the RB and TE...we noted that too.
The defense played a great, hard fought game.... we gave them kudos for that.
Despite the missed FG at the end, we all thought our kicking game did a fine job.
We are certainly going to have our hands full over the next two games...n one is denying any of that either.
Our coaching staff is doing a fine job thus far....also acknowledged.

Here is the test....now there is video. Will we make the necessary adjustments? Will future opponents be able to plan better than St. Francis due to film under a new staff?
Will future teams continue to stack the box daring us to throw the ball into coverage?

That is the beauty of football. It becomes a chess match when done properly. There is no need to denigrate the fans though just because you chose different wording.
Enjoy the rest of the holiday weekend.

only problem I have with the analysis is QB play, receivers were not getting separation as much as I would like but QB accuracy was not there consistently, granted the QB does not have a lot of game experience but he is a senior, let's see how he does from here on out

TMH framed it well again and quite frankly there was no reason to have inflated expectations unless you were not following the team over the last 8 months.

A couple of simple facts:

- The only scores allowed came via broken plays. That is good news. SFU was not able to routinely stuff the ball down Lehigh throat. Clean up those broken, extended plays which is not a difficult fix.

- D held SFU to 5 of 19 on 3rd and 4th down conversions.

- Lehigh ran 70 offensive plays and the ball bounced on the ground 30 times! QB had negative rushing yards vs man coverage and was sacked just once. If the only success our offense will have is when everting goes according to plan in the scheme, this offense will not improve. Must create conflict and stresses on opposing D by extending plays. A MOVE THE CHAINS at all cost mentality.

- Lehigh O: 29% 3rd down conversion

- Lehigh O: 0 TDS in 3 red zone trips.

- Turnovers: 3 SFU - 1 LU and still lost. A sign of how much worse this could have been if SFU protected the ball.

- Dambach on bench until 2H and sparks team when he enters. Just one of several personnel decisions that should be questioned?

As said earlier. There were NO surprises. The team played much the same as they did in the spring scrimmage. QB1 was 2 of 9 in that contest as per the story on Lehigh Sports.

The staff chose the schemes, the staff chose the starting players, the staff has to own this disappointing loss.
