Villanova

Back-to-back PL champs 2016 and 2017.... but need to get back to relevance in the national FCS scene.

Genuinely like to know what you mean about the built in advantages

Red Shirting, Scholarship, NIL?, Legacy of excellence, consistently good coaching, prestige conference, better in and out of conference schedule.
Can we not redshirt football players? We do have scholarships, do they have more? Not sure about NIL there or here for football at this level. The rest of your list is nothing built in, but rather the byproducts of running a great program which are clearly not doing. Villanova, a big Jesuit school in suburban Philly has cleaned our clock on the field and now gets recognized for having a top undergrad business school where we really do not.

That, friends, is dropping the ball.
Wrong tack MH. PL allows only med.redshirts. We have a few more lately from the covid NCAA exemption which expires soon.
L caps schollies at 60. Nova et al have 63.
Don't conflate academic ratings with athletic success or failure.
Rankings were skewed by the viewed need to increase student population. Health School added as the option to get more applicants.
Check the newest ratings. Across the board Lehigh improved. LU site has the complete list.

We should ALL expect adjustment and growing pains after the start of a total revamp.

It's gonna take more than a few games to get everyone on the same page....especially against a top 10 FCS team like Villanova that have built in system advantages v Lehigh in recruiting and retention.

Don’t agree with scheduling cupcake home opener. We must continue to schedule Villanova & figure out how to get competitive again.

We should goal to schedule 1 FCS school as well like Colgate & Lafayette & Holy Cross & even Bucknell are doing.

Cahill will get us there so don’t downgrade expectations but upgrade our schedule based upon the upgrade we just made in coaching staff.

I can agree on no downgrade so long as everyone top to bottom is committed to getting it done!

Lehigh needs a roster overhaul not just a coaching overhaul.

I agree that winning the opener is important. But beating a D3 school isn't going to make the team feel good about itself. Until the team is better, why not open with NEC or Pioneer League schools.
As Coach Cahill said, Villanova is faster, stronger and older than us. That's true of most of the CAA schools. Play them later in the season or play the bottom five, not the top ten in that league until we can compete.
I'm confident Cahill will have Lehigh as good as they were in the latter Higgins era in a couple of years

What’s hard to understand is why it took Sterrett 4 years to move on from Gilmore. It was clear after year 2 and crystal clear after year 3, that he wasn’t the right man for the job.

Especially the red shirting. At this level, and extra year can yield tremendous differences. Young men at ages 18-20, go through significant transition, and holding someone back a year can really impact due to a person's growth--both physically, emotionally, and academically.

While disappointed with the turnovers that gave 'nova some early scoring opportunities, the D was put into very difficult position, and spent too much time on the field in the first half. 'nova much bigger, more experienced, and a class of speed and shiftiness that we cannot match. They should be in the top 15 of the FCS this year. As stated by others, this is going to take some time, but with good recruiting and a new bonding culture taking hold, I believe this Coach can be the leader we want to see at Lehigh.
