Cornell

Back-to-back PL champs 2016 and 2017.... but need to get back to relevance in the national FCS scene.

Great opportunity to establish a presence at home! Cornell has struggled mightily for years due to institutional handcuffs relative to some of their Ivy peers. Nevertheless, the Big Red have some very good players including a FBS caliber QB.

Lehigh 21 Cornell 17

2-1 with a trip to Hanover up next sounds appealing...

Yes, we were 'fortunate' last year that QB Wang was injured. Though he played he was not 100% which limited his mobility. Very good arm and can wing it. Front D must be disciplined to contain him, yet keep him pressured without overcommitting. Hard to do. Could be a higher scoring game than many think. Weather looks great.

CORNELL AT LEHIGH 9/6/2023: Game Preview And Fearless Prediction: Fresh Off Their First Win, Mountain Hawks Have Unfinished Business With Big Red from Last Year

Image
There were a lot of tough, disappointing weekends last year during the Mountain Hawks’ 2-9 season, but taking away the loss to Lafayette, Lehigh’s 19-15 loss to Cornell could have been the toughest one for Lehigh Nation to stomach.

Nice analysis to which I agree. Lehigh needs to get on top early and keep on the pressure. Cornell in their first game of the year, hopefully, will show some early mistiming and/or handling issues which could result in some productive turnovers. Not sure if we will use a "spy" on Wang, but containing him is paramount. Special teams always important, and they were key to the win with Merrimack. Great punting is the first line of defense. Need to make Big Red have to go >80 yards. On offense, our ground game was very good last year against Cornell. That same weapon should open up the pass game for strong-armed Silbor. Sensing a big day for Jamiel and Company. Go Lehigh! 27-22, Good Guys.

Arrrgghh. Mistakes.Big plays yet again.
2 big pass plays. Cornell came out ready to go. We didn't until the end of the 2nd quarter. Once we woke up it was a game. A lot of positives . Yoder impressed at RB. O needs Johnson.

Folks, this team is not going anywhere with the O-line they have . I am sick and tired of the excuses. The O is boring and predictable. Cornell was crisp, and very diverse O. Wang is really good! Silbor often looked like a deer in the headlights. Once again out-sized and out-hustled for much of the game. Again, single back the entire game, no I formation’s. Hunt is clueless! Left very disappointed, again!

The first quarter really was the difference in the game. Getting burnt by big plays has been a defensive issue for some time now. It makes it harder to swallow when Lehigh's offense has grind out drives to score.

- Silbor still has to improve his accuracy/decrease his propensity to throw into traffic. Also needs to feel pressure a bit better.
- Hunt and Cahill need to figure out an offense that can put up 30+ points at least every few games. You can't win college football games in 2023 17-14 on any sort of consistent basis.....
- Defense played really well minus those early blunders. Physically they seem better than previous editions and there's some legit speed in the front 7. Tackle pretty well too.
- I think Lehigh was the better team from late in the second quarter onward. But the end result is still another "L"...

This was very much a winnable game. As is next week. But it will take a complete 60 minutes to make it happen....
