Bucknell
Re: Bucknell
Watched entire game. Play calling puzzling. Running game OK in H1. Kept trying to go inside in H2 with Bucky loading box. Why? Need to use I-back sets, then pitch and take the outside. Yoder and Peltekian very bright spots. Receivers need to coached up. Lazy routes. QB play just not good enough. Cross will be ugly. Hope I am wrong!
Re: Bucknell
Silbor 8/27-2 int’s. Won’t win many with those stats. Second pic was well underthrown
Re: Bucknell
Surprised by the lack of growth at QB. Really thought 18 might be the future. Some of his throws are just puzzling. Off balance throws are wildly inaccurate. The run game was impressive today. Was this a good defensive performance or was Bucknell inept without starting QB?
All of this said…congrats to these kids for putting together a full game. Happy for them.

Re: Bucknell
Was at the game in person. The wind was brutal...all the flags were ripping straight out from their poles, which to me under the 'flag standard' is in excess of 30 mph. It certainly effected some of the passing for both teams, as well a kicking. Regardless, I do agree that Silbor will need to improve his mechanics if he is to be a longterm starter, as well as stop zeroing in on his #1 and check off to #'s 2 and 3, who were open frequently.
Keep in mind, we had a good number of injuries during the game, and are already thin. Luckily, a number were able to return to the game and showed a lot of grit. The secondary was improved with a number of pass breakups. A lot of frosh making impacts. Yoder can be a real force into the future. Just needs some holes. It was great to see the team come home with a win and comes at a good time with the bye to get a number healed up. Looking forward to the home stretch! Go Lehigh!

Dave Cecchini's record as a head coach: 27 -68
He should be selling insurance.

Re: Bucknell
It’s worth remembering that he was considered a potential savior.
Perhaps his coaching skills are not the problem, it’s his job-picking acumen.
Valpo is an awful place to coach and Bucknell is a challenge.

Re: Bucknell
Chick actually did a good job at Valpo--taking over an almost moribund program and had them winning a handful of games a year after a two or three years. With no real 'football tradition" I think he saw the reclamation project at Valpo as being more of a struggle than he expected; hence, interviewing with both Lehigh and Bucknell back in 2018. Both schools with good football traditions, but Lehigh having the unusual circumstances we all know about and Bucknell having a couple decades of mediocrity. We all know the decision made by Lehigh, leaving Chick with Bucknell (and maybe others we might not be aware). As others have pointed out, having been a very successful OC at Lehigh and, then, Harvard and The Citadel, does not automatically equate with being ready to be an HC. We've seen that at the pro level, as well, with successful OC's not being able to make the transition to being the "The Boss". From his years at Lehigh, the great majority of people who connected with Chick were impressed with his coaching ability and ability to relate with students. But a denigrating comment about his ability on this Board says more about the commentator than anything else. We do not know the support, or lack thereof, that was received from Valpo or currently at Bucknell. Many factors go into whether someone "is a success" at their job. And, since we are not privy to all of them, there is no basis for commenting on someone else's ability.
Re: Bucknell
Both Bucky QBs were Seniors (both their starter and 4th string are JR) When he was in Semp was their entire offense, either passing or running.
As for support, the Marching 87 or so was there. They showed a picture of the Bucknell Band on the Big Board.
We had about as many fans there as Bucky. Normal, but when are 1-6 and they are 2-5.
The wind was really freaky. A couple of times with the wind at his back the passes were driven into the ground. Still there were a lot of times when he couldn't see the 2nd +3rd receivers, and threw the ball away when he could have picked up maybe 5 yards.

You've got to admit, though, it's going to be hard to get another HC job if Bucknell thinks it can do better.ngineer wrote: ↑Sun Oct 22, 2023 4:15 pm Chick actually did a good job at Valpo--taking over an almost moribund program and had them winning a handful of games a year after a two or three years. Given what we've seen with Hunt, I wonder if Chick would consider returning if Cahill would have him. Chick proved to be a magician as an OC ...
When was the last time a Lehigh QB had a line like Silbor's -- perhaps as measured by the QB rating? Probably not as long ago as I might suspect, but ... wow ... wind or not.
It is good, however, Lehigh was able to move the ball on the ground.

If so, there is no basis for commenting on anything, ever.
