How does an offensive lineman coach running backs?

Not unusual. Same way they become OCs and HCs. They're good at it.

Disagree. It's highly unusual to have an offensive lineman coach running backs. Frankly what possible value could he add? I suspect he was hired for other reasons.

I'm not sure how you came to that conclusion. This is not his first stint as a RB coach. That's the position he coached at Marist. Quality running backs are pretty instinctive. The level of their success however is directly related to how well they gel with the offensive line and understand where the OL is going to take his block That synergy needs to be developed.
With that being said...Chase Edmonds got drafted in the 4th round. Dom has equivalent speed and is much stronger. Saquon Barkley blew up the combines last year and although Barkley is slightly faster, Dom may be slightly stronger. The biggest difference though is elusiveness. Even after 3 years of college ball, Dom still seems more willing to run over guys than around them and that may not be good enough to get to the next level. If this RB coach can teach an effective spin move or cut back, the sky is the limit IMHO.

Troll? For questioning hiring an offensive lineman to coach running backs? Thought this was a forum to discuss Lehigh football?

Let's look at the numbers:

While a lot goes into them, the facts are that ...

In 2017, Marist averaged 107.2 yards rushing per game. The leading rusher picked up 636 yards in 11 games, 3.7 yards per carry. He had about the same stats in 2016 and 2015.

There seems to be no evidence Cuevas was a standout RB coach in his one year there. The prior two years he did not coach RBs at Susquehanna.

Maybe this guy's a great recruiter. Maybe he's got good stuff on his resume we don't see. Maybe he's a master motivator who can relate to the kids. Maybe someone on the coaching staff or an FOA recommended him. Or maybe he's just a warm body needed late in the game. LU is a step up for him and he has an incentive to kick tail.

Let's hope he does well.

One year is not nearly a fair time period to base any conclusion. Great recruiter. No way to know as any kids he recruited wouldnt come until after he left. Mediocre numbers for a RB. However, meaningless without comparative numbers to establish some parameters.. No way to determine based on your post how that kid was the prior year or the year after..Or for that matter how good or bad the OL was. For that matter we are talking about PFL football. Rather than going for the negative why not trust Andy. He has a pretty good track record with his assts. Last caveat is Andy had to find an asst after camp had already opened. Pickings were undoubtedly not numerous.
