I think the team that hosts the Lehigh/Lafayette game typically leads the Patriot League in attendance, in part because of the boost that team receives from the Lehigh/Lafayette game attendance.

My favorite play was when the Lafayette kid ran into his own player trying to field a punt. I laughed out loud.

I think it shouldn't go without saying the Lehigh Nation came to that game with a lot more desire than Lafayette.
We outright kicked their ass in showing up ready for battle even down to the band making them look silly during pre-game. Then we took the field like it was our home game and before you knew it we have a couple scores on the board. I usually don't have much to say about the band but they also really put on an energetic halftime show that showed they take this Rivalry seriously. Despite Lafayette's PA system aided fan cheering I think there was more noise on our side also. Great to see that Dom and Ed both padded their all time stats further and Andy tied the all time wins record as coach. If you had to end a tough season on a high note, this was what we would have ordered. Happy for the graduating class to finish with this game.

Semi-related comment RE: the band - the combined Lehigh and Lafayette bands did a very nice job with the Star-Spangled Banner.

"Tis been said many times, that this game is a separate season. Never is this more true than when your team suffers through an embarrassing season.

The team came out with an incredible energy and did several things that they have not done (or done well) the past two seasons, especially on defense.

My game report card:

Coaching- A The kids were ready to play. We took advantage of the zone defense with intermediate passes. I'd give an A+ if not for that idiotic play calling on the last first half possession. A Not higher due to stupid sideline penalties...

Offense- A A balanced, if not prolific attack numbers-wise. This partly due to the opponent shooting themselves in the foot and presenting a short field. QB managed the game with the exception of that late first half INT. Just manage the game, with short passes and runs.

Defense- A+, a really strong performance from the beginning. Aggressive and smart. They whacked the QB nicely on the blocked FG.

Special teams- A+ "Special" indeed. Best performance all year! The line play resulted in botches all over the place by the other guys.

Opportunism- A+ it was because of high energy or because the opponent is really bad, the takeaways and blocked kicks were a welcome sight. It seemed like every mistake made by the other guys was pounced upon for good effect.

Now, going forward. Will this be enough to deaden the sting from a D that gave up 38 ppg, and an offense that was anemic during the balance of the season? I think it's time to move forward.

Not gonna argue with the grades marco.
We must move forward. How to best do so is the elephant in the room. Sterrett has decisions to make.

Laf announced top PL attendance 5 of the 8 past years lead league in attendance. With yesterday I would assume 6 of the last 9 (Although I would bet the attendance was lowest since WW2). So that means they out attended us in one of the years we hosted Leh-Laf. Can't figure out which year that was. 2013 they had a championship season, but we were 8-2 going into that game with them.

In any case, Stadium lights are clearly the attendance difference.

Am I correct that without Temp seats, Fisher Field only seats about 13,000. So Clearly under 10,000 folks in the stadium yesterday, maybe as few as 8,000. Sad

So when they combined the two bands for the National Anthem yesterday, do you think they just told the lafayette band to fake it? Like Lipsynch?

When the Lehigh Band played the Alma Mater yesterday, after Laf played theirs, after the game, it looked like the JumboTron showed the words to the Centenial Song (admittedly at the margin of my once keen vision). In any case, I favor the Centenial Song to be the Alma Mater, as was intended.

I wonder how many even know the words to the Centennial? Ah well,I still have my dink from fresman year.
Hard to believe that it was so long ago. I also remember how bad our team was back them. Only a few years after a Lambert. The slide down is terrifyingly fast. The climb back up is tough and depressingly a many year project. Sterrett has to decide now on how best to get our program out of this slump.

I know it ends in "Hail Lehigh" Which is what I read clearly on the JumboTron. I forget who wrote it, But I know it was arranged by 97 director Dr "Moose" Elkus. and its intent was clear. It had the alternate name ALMA MATER. I realize it was rejected in favor of that old british drinking song used by 100's of HS and Colleges. But I am guessing 75% of alumni are since 1965.

Unfortunately Cornell claims priority on our official Amam Mater because the music was song on the better (1953) movie Titanic.
