Coach watch

Back-to-back PL champs 2016 and 2017.... but need to get back to relevance in the national FCS scene.

ngineer,
From a legal perspective only, aren't all Lehigh coaches on a year to year contract? Isn't there a huge difference from an HR standpoint in not renewing a contract as compared to firing someone. It seems to me that one can simply not renew a contract without cause.

Correct, but these things take time. And if there is to be a 'side ways' move of "accommodation" with the creation of a new position, HR requires postings and associated time frames. Things just cannot happen with the snap of a finger. The concept may be simplistic, the mechanics required are not.

If the 'non-renewal' is done for a protected reason it can get sticky.

"without cause" hilarious, look at the record over the past 3 years and you might find some cause

My question was from a legal perspective as stated. It had nothing to do with the situation at hand.

If a change is going to be made that would involve the HC staying on with the University, then, certain legal protocols have to be followed with regard to various HR issues. Anyone who has worked with any size company in a management position would know that. Also, if a successor has been identified then there are also other requirements that would have to be followed with regard to that person's current employers. There are alot of moving parts behind the scene of which most people have no idea. If a change is going to occur, one also has to deal with the rest of the staff.
If anything ngineer is over simplifying the current procedures not only at LU but at the current employer.
Firing vs nonrenewal is in this situation likely not relevant. I note tho that coaches' contracts run until June at least for assts. Assume it is the same for HC.
I too hope this moves as quick as possible. Lengthy uncertainty never a good thing.

Great news! Urban Meyer announced his retirement from Ohio State to accept the head coaching job at Lehigh. Something about less stress and a more welcoming environment.

Nice!

I think I'd rather have AC at LU than UM. Character beats winning every day, but you can have both.
