He would sign any type of extension for that amount of money in the Pioneer League, that is just simply not true. 2. I was very vocal in my dissatisfaction with people saying Dave should be the guy. But he would absolutely be a better choice than Gilmore.
Whatever anyone might choose to believe, Cecchini's extension with Valparaiso was signed prior to the beginning of the 2017 season and his contract runs through 2020. It is not a recently signed extension which is one of the erroneous mentions I've seen on this board. Dollar amount is unknown.
I cited the extension as a factor for Dave not as a recent event. $200,000 was a reputed amt. Have no idea whether it was accurate or not.

Presser was better than I anticipated in some ways.
TG very clear on his expectations. PL titles and playoff Ws not just appearances. He wants the same level as he expeienced in his 1st 2 yrs at LU. Undefeated seasons and playoff Ws. Highlighted routing W,Illinois.

We still have a defense that gave up 450 yd/g last year and 470 the year before. Our offense is losing most of their marquee players and the special team will need to find a kicker/punter to replace record holder Ed Mish
agree on replacing Mish, big shoes to fill there
RB does not seem to be a problem, Allen looked very good last year
QB a bit of unknown, probably no one has Mayes arm although his #'s last year were down from 2016

I am actually more concerned about replacing the DL

Monaco is capable. None of the backups have Brad's arm. A healthy OL is the key. We are set most everywhere. O staff choices for TG are crucial.
DL has 1 starter at DE. DT is pretty empty. Rybka Dooling are it.

With no disrespect to anyone but how do we know that Monaco is capable? Is "capable" even what we are looking for?
He's had very limited playing time where he completed 47% of his passes. I think Allen may be a workhorse next year.

My point, I think, is that the cupboard is not very full although it is certainly not empty either. I personally don't think we will be putting up the kind of points we are used to. I'm more focused on the improvement on defense. If we can hold opponents to less than 24 ppg, we are heading in the right direction.

Once again, just my opinion

No sweat :D . Capable simply means he knows the O and has adquate tools. Too small a sample to decide whether he can do the job well enough. He is athletic with good size and a fair arm. Shoup may be a better passer but he also lacks a big arm. Beesmer may be the most athletic of the 3. Again hasnt shown a big arm.

O may not be a prolific scoring machine again. Will TG keep this version of Folmar's O or opt for a different O ?

I was just talking to some old friends. I was reminded of the comments made when Kevin was named to replace Hank. Some were sure that the program was being flushed down the toilet. How could anyone pick Higgins who had a bad D the year before. That was true enough. The cause was not Kevin's ability but that Hank kept all the best athletes on offense. A bit comparable to Gilmore now. In this case, it was Holy Cross admissions that kept most better athletes out of school.
Time has come for TG to show us what he can do.

I am doubling down on my prior comments.

At this point in time, Lehigh has hired the best person and he will lead this program to the promised land.

I have followed Lehigh football longer than almost anyone, have spent time with TG and other LU coaches, and believe he is The Man.

I'm not sure what Folmar's offense was and that to me was part of his genius as an offensive coordinator. I'm doing this from memory so don't shoot the messenger :-)...but I believe he was the OC for the last 3 years of the Shafnisky era.
In year 1, due to a tear in Shaf's throwing shoulder, he devised an offense of short throws and Shaf runs.

In the second year, Shaf started off great but was injured for the last 2 games. Mayes became the QB and Shaf was used as a wildcat extraordinaire.

In his final season, Shaf was healthy and the offense clicked on all cylinders, scoring about 40ppg

In other words, he built the offense around whatever parts he had. That is what the OC needs to do next year.

I have a theory Drew really doesn't want to be a head coach again. His brilliance is with the offense. In his one season as HC at Kutztown, he went 4-7 and then left for his gig at Lehigh. Pundits here were getting over a Chick hangover here and he was not particularly well received. First there was the complaints about not throwing the ball deep. Of course very few people knew about the shoulder tear. Then there was the calls to bench Shaf and develop the young freshman and then finally they like him. :-) and want him back.

Go figure!!
