Boston...PL game #17

Young team returns in 2018-2019 with tons of promise. Can they get back to the NCAA Tournament?

Boston...PL game #17

Post by jimk72 » Wed Feb 26, 2020 5:20 pm

Tonight we are staring at potentially (probably?) the last home game for 2019-2020. The script for another home game in the tournament is darn simple. Beat the Terriers tonight at Stabler and complete the sweep of a decent Loyola team Saturday in Baltimore.

Tonight Kenpom has us a 6 point home dog. Making Kenpom look bad two games in a row would give us all great hope for next year. Obviously this won't be easy. Mahoney & Mathon are every bit as physical as James and Nic. And then there's Walter Whyte. We are going to need a tremendous defensive effort and good shooting to get this done.

See ya'll there!!!

From a spectator viewpoint, it was a fun game to watch, kinda like a couple of heavyweights going at it,
BU plays a great man to man defense and Lehigh certainly matched it it in intensity although again many wide open looks, that BU just missed on. The extended 3 pt line is certainly having an impact there.

OT was dictated by pure exhaustion. Lehigh essentially only played 7. In the entire 5 minute OT, there was a total of 1 basket, the teams shooting 1-14. FTs weren't much better with the teams shooting a combined 4-13.

Just looking at the box score, especially for overtime, one word comes to mind - UGLY. At least Lehigh got the win.

From examining the Patriot League standings, it appears Lehigh will definitely play (and host) Loyola in the PL Tournament first round if they win at Loyola on Saturday. If they lose to Loyola on Saturday, it looks like based on the tiebreakers LU will either play at Loyola or Bucknell in the first round. Lehigh is locked into being either the #8 or #9 seed.

great win, gutty performance

I wonder how healthy JK is? lot of minutes tonight for him, great effort, but not sure if he is 100%

noted that ET had ankle re-taped during the game also, guess that just comes with the territory this time of year

Described in the post game as a "rock fight" by Brett. Perhaps better described as a "brick" fight. But make no mistake there was intense defense on both sides in a game the officials let to get a bit out of hand physically. A lot of grabbin' and pushin'. True that BU missed some open shots, but many more were contested. And so did we. This did not need to get to OT though if we made any kind of free throw percentage.

Good by and good riddance to Max Mahoney. Terrific all league player with a double double in his last appearance at Stabler. Unfortunately Walter Whyte, also a double-double tonight, will be back next year and beyond. In summary, we beat a pretty good team tonight without a good shooting night.

For those who attended or watch on Patriot League Network, did you think we took a beating from the officials? Or am I just another "homer"? Thought they were brutal, mostly to us.

PS: Very impressed again with J. Wilson's athleticism..... really coming into his own...
