James Karnik has entered the transfer portal

I didn't expect that. Is he going to be graduating early, or will he have to sit a year - assuming he leaves.
Jeff Goodman reported it, but Karnik retweeted it - so there's no doubt the report is accurate.

Re: James Karnik has entered the transfer portal
Anyone else sense something is wrong with a program/university that has this many transfers among its better players?

Stunning. Certainly hurts the team. Wish him well where ever he lands.
Dont agree that this move is a comment on the nature of the program. Perhaps but perhaps more likely based on his own personal situation. Karnik is from western Canada. He is at home now. Given the current landscape with the pandemic spreading throughout the country, he may have felt it better to remain close to home. Well see.

Re: James Karnik has entered the transfer portal
There are over 600 names in the NCAA basketball portal right now, and rising every day. There are 353 D1 schools, so we're heading toward an average of over 2 transfers per program - this isn't a Lehigh specific challenge. Saw the URI coach also commenting that with student athletes home for COVID-19, you can't "re-recruit them" if they are interested in leaving.
Re: James Karnik has entered the transfer portal
For context, there were 997 names in the portal last year and about 800 the two years before that. It will be interesting to see if the final number this year greatly exceeds the 997 figure.StablerBum wrote: ↑Wed Apr 01, 2020 11:17 am There are over 600 names in the NCAA basketball portal right now, and rising every day. Re: James Karnik has entered the transfer portal
Yes, we have had a spate of transfers over the years but they tend to fall into 2 categories.
Those who are homesick make that decision early and leave after their freshman or perhaps sophomore seasons.
Those that leave after their junior year have almost all had a degree in their hand. I have no inside information but it would not surprise me if Karnik will be graduating at the end of this semester and is exploring grad school options.
It just seems strange to forego a Lehigh degree and all the placement and networking opportunities associated with it at this stage of his career.

Agree with TMH. I was looking forward to next year with a healthy Karnik. With the youngsters showing a lot of promise, next season did, too.
