Game 3: Marist

Young team returns in 2018-2019 with tons of promise. Can they get back to the NCAA Tournament?

so obviously I have no idea what I am talking about

So Marist is hitting over 70% from 3. Guess they are hot. Also guess our perimeter D sucks. Geez!!

Lehigh in OT. Leufroy and Tejada got hot in 2nd. Gutted out a tough W. Downside is it shouldnt have been a tough W. Wilson only 4 minutes. Porter played. Did anyone see Lynch?

Just got back from the game. I'm not sure what you are referring to.
The score was 78-72 and was won in regulation.Porter was in street clothes, I think.Lynch played sparingly in the 1st half. Reed decided to go small for most of the 2nd half. Shots were falling for everyone in that half until Marist went very cold at the end of the game.

Couple of things regarding playing time tonight. Porter did not play. Lynch played only 7 minutes. Karnick 21 minutes. Game did not go OT, we won in regulation. Ugly first half shooting for Lehigh. Meanwhile Marist was over 80% on three's at one point. We had to be happy down only 5 at the half. Early in the second half Reed went to more speed in the line up with Bennet. Down the stretch he pulled Karnik and went with Cohen, Tejada, Bennett, and Leufroy & Andree as the bigs. Bennett was a demon on Marist best scorer and the team got 8 straight stops at the end for the win. The new Wilson (Jeameril) with some quality defensive minutes to spell Andree mid second half.

This was a game were they were hot, we were not, and won on pure guts and hustle at the end.

I'm not sure that we were not. Lehigh shot 61.54% from the 3 in the second half and 48.1% for the game.

I do wish that we would stop digging ourselves into holes early though. Side note...JK showed me nothing at center. Perhaps it was one game but he let a lot of nice feeds go through his hands and that missed uncontested dunk hurt.
Just my opinion.

I agree on Karnik. He received passes and tried to dribble or brought the ball down low and had it knocked away a number of times. I do not understand why Lynch did not play in the second half. He has much better hands than Karnik. And Lynch can score.

really cold shooting early in the game and the shots were good choices just not falling

I thought this was one of Docs best coaching jobs, good call on the small line up which stifled the little foxes, KL was masterful tonight, some nice D from J Wilson, very athletic,

I don't know what I liked better - the shutdown D at the end of the game or a team doing what it does best, i.e., shoot the 3. Both were sights to behold. As for the three, consider the fact that we went 13 for 27 (.4815) last night from long distance, compared to 16 for 33 (.484) from in close. Jokingly, it makes you wonder why we even consider the "2." At this point in the season, we're ranked 44th in the nation from beyond the line at .427. With regard to the "D," it's something that seems to unit this team more than even the long ball. Just listen to and observe the bench - coaches and players - during those D stops. Sitting down low, it's something I've had a chance to do this year and in prior years, as well. It's "all for one / one for all" and it keeps this team going and united. Witnessing it first hand, you'd never know that NL and JK combined to go 1 for 7 last night. Truly believe their time(s) will come - perhaps as early as Friday.
