How Ken Pom Sees It
Lehigh (5-2) and ranked 141st out of the PL
@
Yale (3-2) and ranked 81st out of the IVY
Yale wins by 8 (81-73) 24% chance
Yale comes into this game – it’s home opener, no less - riding high after downing Miami by 4 (77-73) on Saturday. The same Miami team that beat us by 21 just 3+ weeks ago! Is Pomeroy crazy or what are we missing? The many recaps of this wild affair are a good read – perhaps none better than what appeared in the Orlando Sentinel and provided below. In short, cold shooting (1 of 12 by Mami in the closing minutes) and the old adage “it’s a game of runs,” best say it all after realizing that the guys from New Haven closed out the affair on a 17-3 run. Miami actually held a 10-point lead at the half – a lead that grew to 15 and later dropped to 2 with 3:21 to go! Fun game, no doubt. Hope the Eli are still celebrating.

Is there any hope for Lehigh………why not? Just realize that this is the same Bulldog team that lost to Vermont (ranked 116th) just 2 weeks ago in what just another “game of runs.” This time the spurts favored the Catamounts of Vermont who bracketed halftime with rips of 9-2 and 16-4. All this while allowing Yale’s super star, Myie Oni, to go off for 18 pts and 10 boards. As long as the 3-point shot is still in play (we are currently ranked 11th in the nation connecting on 43.4% of our long-range attempts) and have the ability to guard against the 2-pointer (ranked 8th allowing just 39.9%), I give us a chance.

Re: Game 8: Yale
Is this going to be streamed? Has the potential to be a really good game.
Re: Game 8: Yale
It appears so...on ESPN+. The link is on the basketball website.
Re: Game 8: Yale
Ivy league sensation Myie Oni proves you don't need three or four stars to be really good. Rated only 2 stars upon 2016 graduation from Suffield Academy. A win tonight against this kind of competition would be a huge confidence boost for us going into Morgantown and the rest of the season.
Re: Game 8: Yale
Got to catch some of the game. 1st half was superb. A true battle as was most of the 2nd. We lapsed for 5 minutes or so on D. Yale lit us up got a lead. We refocused but the damage was done. This was a winnable game but you cannot have extended lapses on D and beat good teams.

Re: Game 8: Yale
Yale is very good. Likely better than anyone in the PL, and a power conference quality team.
That said, not going to win too many games giving up 65% shooting on 2's and 38% of available defensive rebounds. Karnik and Lynch combined for 3 rebounds in 35 minutes, and Yale shot twice as many free throws. Yale is long and athletic, but it's hard to win getting beaten that like in the paint and on the boards. Even when you make 15 3's and score 87!

Still, we were in the game against a quality opponent. Should provide good vibes going forward
Re: Game 8: Yale
SB nailed it! He nonnally does. Gotta play 40 on both ends. That said, we have a good team - one that could very well compete in March - and one that I hope students and area fans soon get behind.
Attendance apppears, with few exceptions, to be a widespread problem of mid-majors and below. Same song, second verse...i know. But, think about this: Yale beat Miami and came home for their home opener and drew the interest if 847 students and fans from the greater New Haven, CT area. Sad. Things are not a whole lot better over here in the PL when looking at home attendance. To date, we rank 6th @ 896 and stand ahead of only BU (782), AU (758), AWP (588), and CU (330).
