Commentary

Four losses – 3 to Power Conference foes and 1 to Yale (then and now a Top 100 team) – is pretty much all we could have expected in OOC play. You got to love our offense, featuring an array of skilled shooters (46.8% from “2” and 44.9% from “3” which is #1 among the nation’s 353 D-1 programs) and our play-makers led by our captain/senior, Jordan Cohen, who all sport double-digit scoring averages and positive assist to turnover ratios. I trust I’m not alone, however, in showing some concern over our interior play – offense and defense. The Stats below seem to say it all.

Rebounding Edge…What edge!? We have been out-rebounded in 5 of our last 6 games by a combined count of 190 to 256 or 32 to 43 on a per game basis. Second chance points suffer as do breakaway opportunities. Pomeroy ranks us 296th in Offensive Rebounding Percentage and 299th in Defensive Rebounding Percentage.

Our Bigs…There’s certainly room for improvement in our Post play which I would characterize as too often tentative, prone to foul, and “small” despite their height. Hey, it’s just one man’s opinion. The numbers are “good” in part but “fair” overall when you factor in PFs and FT%s.

Item……….NL..……..JK………Combo
Min/G 16.2 20.1 36.3
Pt/G 5.3 5.6 10.9
Rb/G 3.8 5.3 9.1
PF/G 2.6 2.9 5.5
FG% .456 .488 .469
FT% .352 .747 .549

Mentioned in an earlier thread, but the wish bears repeating now. Let’s hope to get off to an early start with home wins over LC tomorrow and LOM on Sunday before taking to the road to play two against Holy Cross and Colgate – two teams thought by most to be among the prime contenders for the PL title this year. The other squad thought to be in it to the very end, Bucknell, starts with two on the road before turning to home against Colgate on Jan. 9th. Got to love the PL Network!

Just wanted to start off the New Year by saying that a love these synopses prior to the games. Thank you for taking the time of keeping me informed LU65.
With that being said, I think Jordan Cohen is only a junior.

Anyone else going to the game?

I will be in section 16 in brown Lehigh sweat shirt offering New Year's greetings to the officials on every blown call. Blown in my mind of course. My thanks as well to LU65. Always great perspective.

We could have won at Yale or at West Virginia with adequate interior play, particularly on our defensive boards. They just got way more shots, mostly short or point blank range. The 'Pards would love to spoil our league home opener so we have to clean this up.

Sincere Happy New Year to all our visitors, contributors, and of course LFNadmin!

Do love DVR. ;)

i think we left one W on the court in OOC but we won all those we should have.
Tentative best describes our bigs. Understandable with frosh. Karnik has the jumps but seems to be overthinking his job rather than doing it.Doc will I believe sort it out.

yes, a lot of the learning is being able to react without thinking. By the time the thought process occurs the opponent is on to something else.

escaped with a win on a night where the opponent just played harder than we did, like what coach did putting JW in at the 5 in the second half
