Game 15/4 - Colgate

Game Notes

LU’s

CU’s

How KenPom Sees It

LU (10-4/3-0) Ranked 143rd
@
CU (9-7/1-2) Ranked 162nd
CU wins by 2 (79-77)

Around the League
Bucky by 6 over AU
LOM by 1 over Army
HC by 11 over LC
BU by 1 over Navy

All-in-all, KP sees the home team winning 4 of 5 contests, yielding only to the visiting Terriers of BU. To date, that closely approximates the 11 and 4 overall records of the home-standing teams thru the first 3 league contests.

Home Sweet Home
To date this year, the home teams are 11-4 in League play. Colgate stands at 1-0 in Hamilton (NY) with their losses to date coming to Navy by 4 and to Bucky by 3 – each on the road. Their victory at home was over AU by 4. In fact, all of Colgate’s 7 setbacks this year were away from the friendly confines of the Hamilton Gym where a crowd of 350 can be expected tomorrow afternoon. Yeah, the setting makes it a rough place to play. Just ask anyone who has experienced the site first hand. The 11-4 start (.733) for the home teams this year in League play is a step above the 2017-18 season mark of .556 (50-40) set last year. Colgate went 6 and 3 a year ago and is off to a 1-0 start this year.

Like OOC Opponents
There were three and we each set them down.

Monmouth….CU wins by 13, LU wins by 24
Siena…CU wins by 5, LU wins by 11
Marist….CU wins by 16, LU wins by 6

The “Long and Short” of It for Colgate

Soph. Guard, Jordan Burns
Number 1, 6’0” Guard
16.9 ppg /3.6 rpg / 5.1 Assists per game

Jr. Forward, Rapolas Ivanauskas (Northwestern Transfer)
Number 25, 6’10” Small Forward
13.6 ppg / 9.0 rpg

Anxious/worried to see how we meet the challenge - particularly in the Post.

Stats to be Concerned About ?

Offensive Rebounding
CU 32.7% (58th in Nation)
LU 23.7% (313th in Nation)

The “3”
CU 31.7% in Defense of Shot (88th in Nation)
LU 46.6% in Hitting the Shot (#1 in Nation)

watched some of the CU- BU game, Burns is very quick and athletic and will be a handful, I think our bigs can handle to NW transfer OK, and don't sleep on Will Raymond

Final 92-78. Ole defense and poor shooting early. 2 in a row with no D.

Coach said it best... "we ran out of gas." Let me add the terms "lackluster," "sleepy," and "sloppy" to depict what I saw. You can't allow the number of turnovers we did- no less the resulting points (24 compared to just 4 for us)- and expect a much better result.

Now for the good news, despite the loss we remain atop the Standings, albeit tied with Bucky, at 3 and 1. Six teams trail us by one at 2 and 2. Loyola and LC sit in the basement with 1 and 3 records. Our chance to break out of the tie at the top is just days away with AU (2-2) and Bucky (3-1) coming to Stabler on Wednesday and Saturday, respectively. Our 6-game home winning streak will be on the line. With any luck and a lot of rest, we might manage to tack on a pair of W's at home and put some distance between us and the rest of the pack. Play as we did today, all bets are off. We could just as easily be joining Lafayette and Loyola for a share of the basement. Yeah, just another packed PL race. It's fun, I suppose.

As for Home Team Magic, be advised that four of five came out on top today. I might add, just as KenPom warned. The Home Teams now sit with 15 wins and just 5 losses in League Play. KP actually tabbed the
Bucky win by one today and was but one point off on his choice of LOM over Army.

Such a game was bound to happen. Second long road trip in the week. With the number of games played there will be some stinkers. You just hope they are aberrations and not something of portent. We'll find out this week.
