Story Behind AU’s Last Game – a one-point loss to Bucky

Commentary
AU comes into the game alternating PL wins and losses – the W’s coming at home against BU and Navy while the L’s occurred on the road against Colgate and Bucky – no sin there. In fact, the Eagles haven’t won a road game since November 27th when they set down a weak VMI squad. To date, following last night’s win by Bucky, it’s interesting to note that the home teams have been victorious in 16 of the 21 PL contests played to date.
We have handled the Eagles well in recent years. In fact, you have to go back to March of ’15 before finding an AU win. In more recent times, it has boiled down to how we manage their top two scoring threats – Sa’eed Nelson (6’2” Guard – Number 0 - out of Pleasantville, NJ) and Sam Iorio (6’6” Forward – Number 22 - out of Allentown, PA). Last year, they combined for 44 before we were able to pull out a win in OT – that occurring at the home of the Eagles in Washington DC. Up at Stabler, the Nelson and Iorio pair managed just 18 points on 5 for 19 shooting. In that game, Karick and Andree combined for 35 points and 21 boards and sealed the win for us. No doubt another strong showing by the two will be needed on Wednesday to assure a Mountain Hawk win.

Re: Game 16/5 - American
Looking forward to a rested and more focused team. I hope. Do want to see how Doc uses Porter.
Re: Game 16/5 - American
It may be interesting to put Wilson or Porter on Nelson for some extended minutes. Both are athletic and have the length to play a more smothering defense.
BTW, Doc fully understands that defense or lack thereof is our #1 problem. I suggested that he give his half time speech prior to the game. He said he had already considered that.

Kudos TMH
Re: Game 16/5 - American
Thank you TMH. My hopes for tonight are more rebounds and less TOs. And for a loud home crowd. Plenty of great seats still available......
General question, how long has it been since we successfully recruited a starter from the Lehigh Valley? In fairness there has not been a ton of D1 basketball recruits in our area, until recently. Lately we missed on Iorio and Stout. Young from Becahi doesn't count as he is redshirting at Northwestern.
The last real stud I can think of is all the way back to Mike Polaha. I must be forgetting someone...?

Re: Game 16/5 - American
The last one I can remember may be Chuck Penn who I believe was in the early 90s and I believe from Allen HS
Re: Game 16/5 - American
I been saying the same thing for a few years. Missed out on a couple local boys. Stout. David kachleries from emmaus who is at a junior college I believe. Obviously Sam. Is young redshirting ? I also know we were looking at Paz a year or two a year ago. I wish we could bring some local talent here.
Re: Game 16/5 - American
83-76 final A nice W. Great to see Porter again. Our O cooked great movement. We played D off and on. Very bad habit. We've seen what happens when O is out of sync. Are we capable of playing D for an entire game. Guessing that might come in handy vs Bucknell.

Re: Game 16/5 - American
Any chance they move the Bucknell game time up? It could be a catastrophe by 7 pm on Saturday. Even 3 or 4 would be better. Temple has Penn at the Palestra at 5 and there's concerns over that. It's Dunphy's last game at the Palestra/against Penn. Dave Duke's as well.
A noon tip at Lehigh and a trip from NEPA might even be possible...lol

Re: Game 16/5 - American
Original forecast was for 8-12 in. Now its 1 or 2 during the day and 2-4 over the night. May not be a big travel issue. And well, Lehigh is really impressive looking snow covered.
