BU 52 - Lehigh 48

Post by RichH » Sat Feb 09, 2019 4:14 pm

Another slow start. Outscored 18-5 in 1st period. We outscored BU for the rest of the game.
Ladies fought hard and got it down to 3 pts with some seconds left.
Problem we cant shoot. Period. 30% from the field. Pascoe 3-12 today. Buhr had a nice double-double but not enough alone to get the W.
Slow start and no Pascoe tough to ovsrcome. They tried hard.

Slow start killed them. Kudos to the ladies for not throwing in the towel and giving them selves a chance. Doomed by poor shot selection and forced shots. When they moved the ball today they got better looks. If they figure that out, they will give themselves a chance against American and Bucknell. If not, more of the same.

Sue went out to Notre Dame a few years ago to be tutored, I suppose, by Muffy McGraw. I think that's when the offense changed.
Can you elaborate on the recruiting portion though? It seems to me that Lehigh is loaded with a lot of 6 footers. I suspect all of them played near the basket in HS. Many of them were bona fide stars in HS. HH was never a scorer. GG's forte had always been short jumpers. CBenz is 6-3. I believe only Pascoe ,Clougherty and to a lesser extent Steele were known to shoot from the perimeter and none of them are lighting it up. Therein may be the problem.

Interestingly, the men's team runs the exact offense you described with 4 perimeter players and one inside. Brett loaded up with shooters. We lead the nation in that department.

On the plus side, a really liked the full court pressure we utilized today and the substitution pattern was anything but standard.

Why the consistent slow starts? They have had quite a few single digit first quarters this season. They spend the entire rest of the game trying to dig out of that hole. That's not a way to win. What is it about the first quarter?
