If past years' results aren't taken into account, there's no way to account for a veteran wrestler recovering from an injury late in the season. There's one wrestler in the entries who'll be coming in with an 0-0 record this year. How does any system account for that? In the 2020 season Teague Moore was the head of the coaches' seeding committee -- he told me that his nightmare was that Yianni would end his Olympic redshirt year very late and show up at EIWAs with a record of something like 1-0.

In seeding there are several objectives that sometimes interfere with each other. The fans and the coaches want to see the marquee matchups late in the tournament. Define "marquee". Everyone agrees that wrestlers should be rewarded for successful hard work with higher seeds. Placing Yianni randomly because he didn't wrestle during the year penalizes those wrestlers with the higher seeds, because one of them will draw him in the first round. Placing Yianni at the top ignores the principle of rewarding the successful hard work, and it also penalizes first-year competitors because they've had no opportunity to accumulate Yianni's past success. Follow one of those objectives, you block another one.

My horses from the back at the pole. They make Finals.

125 Maida American...if he goes.
133 Leiphar F&M
141 Composto Penn
149 Rivera Princeton
157 Lukez USMA
165 Mulvaney Bucknell
174 Wask USNA
184 Key USNA
197 Stout Princeton
285 Greiss USNA

I think some of these Army and Navy guys could be dangerous. I am expecting some upsets in the QF round.

I'll wear those brown & white shades here... no upsets to our guys (UNLESS it's OUR guys doing the upsets! ;) )

**** Our 149 Kelvin Griffin's opponents will be wise to choose neutral when they have choice. He is not someone you want to run into in the early rounds.

OK, dark horses are picked, but who will be the "Slow Horses" ?

I.E. those not up for their seeding standard......

Video is available to everyone. If coaches aren't familiar with Griffin's game, then they should be fired.

I was thinking along similar lines earlier, but I was looking at someone from down in the weeds who might place unexpectedly, possibly high enough to qualify for NCAAs. I didn't come up with many --

133 Andrew Fallon, Sacred Heart, 14-3
141 Raymond Lopez, American, 6-4
184 Anthony D'Alesio, LIU, 16-11
Swisher's in the semis with two one-sided wins.
Fallon is Sacred Heart's only medalist. He faces Brown's Hunter Adrian tomorrow.
Lopez lost to Cornella, won two in consolations but was eliminated by Kai Owen in the blood round.
D'Alesio is one of three LIU medalists. He faces Jacob Nolan tomorrow. 184 has seven qualifiers, so he just needs one win to be LIU's first NCAA Div I qualifier.

Whoever predicted that none of Griffin's opponents wouldn't choose neutral is right so far. The first two didn't, the third didn't last long enough to have a choice.

For the first time I can remember (since the EIWA has been back up to 16 teams, anyway), every team has a placewinner.

Only 3 of my dark horses got to the 3rd/4th bout. Some good wrestling most of the 10 and an injury for Stout.
