Safe to say Pat signed a gem in Drew Munch. Quite a performance. Most of his 5 falls were fast! Tells he is explosive. This is supposed to be a down year for recruiting? Hardly.

Although he was not OW, Munch did win the Mendoza Award for most team points. He is now the second Lehigh recruit to win that award following Randy Cruz in 2011.

There's a replay on Flo. No clock visible but sure looked like he was there for a 2 count before ref signaled period was over. Kid he narrowly lost to turned out to be the OW.

Quick question.
As reported earlier, Munch was unranked at his weight class but was the 3rd seed. Can I assume that his was a really weak weight at the Ironman this year? Did he beat anybody that was ranked other than #14 in the finals?

I'm just trying to get a perspective of what to expect.

Don't you have eyes? Or maybe you don't subscribe to Flo? He'll be a very solid 133 lbr. for life with an outside shot at being an AA junior/senior year. Good on his feet, very tough on top and could use some work on bottom. By any measure a good pick up for Lehigh.

No need to start off with snark mookie. Simple question. Did he wrestle anyone good? Agree he looked very good . Valid to wonder whether he faced any real competition.

mookie,

FYI, I don't subscribe to Flo nor was I home to watch any of the matches. Looks however can be deceiving.

Caden Wright, another of our recruits, is 7-0 this year with 5 pins. All but one were in the 1st period. He moved up from 182 to 195 for 3 of those pins (including a district champ). I'm sure he looked incredibly good in all his matches but I'm not sure if I should evaluate him with the same set of eyes you have. Much depends on the level of competition Munch was facing too. Since you did watch the matches, please tell me about the level of competition he faced since an unranked guy was given a 3rd seed.

I did my own research.
#1 seed Alejandro-Rondon was defeated 1-0 in the semis
#2 seed Rivera was defeated in the QF

Munch faced neither of them. He defeated the #4 seed Miller 10-4, #7, #11 and #14 seeds. He certainly had a very nice tournament. I'm just saying the level of optimism may be a bit premature. Let's just see where this all leads.

It would be nice if Munch had taken all the top guys down himself. That said ...

Herrera-Rondon, a junior, is ranked 13th by Intermat at 132, 20th junior overall.
Rivera, a senior, is ranked 9th at 132, 74th overall.
Miller, a junior, is ranked 14th at 132, 33rd junior overall.

Herrera-Rondon didn't surrender an offensive point in the tournament, including to Miller in the semis. Miller won in overtime and the record doesn't show how the point was awarded. H-R then wrestled back for third place; it's not like he had a bad tournament or anything. Miller squeaked past him and then Munch defeated Miller 10-4.

Rivera lost 4-1 in the quarters to 7th seed Davin Rhoads, who Munch then pinned in 43 seconds. Rivera wrestled back for 5th, losing to H-R along the way in the consis. So he didn't have a bad tourney either.

Munch beat the guy who beat the 9th-ranked guy, beat the guy who beat the 13th-ranked guy, and personally beat the 14th-ranked guy. I don't know exactly where all the dominoes will land, but I think we know that Munch is now one of the dominoes.
