Couple thoughts from me:
Any news on Humphreys? See he medical'd out of last bout......
The Weiler/Logan result a little eye opening....
The Foca/Ruth result a bit chilling.....
Gallik beats Meyer, the 165 game continues.....
Jeez ....... all good points ......
Thanks to Gimp, I can report that Track has changed the scoring of the 184 3rd place bout. Now shows Weiler beating Logan by default in 6:57, but the scoring shows Logan ahead 5-3 at the time. Looks like Logan hit a TD late in the 3rd but hurt himself in the process. Or not; open tournament scoring .... it's never final until the morning after, if then.
Don't know about Humphreys forfeiting out; Quincy Monday is a terrific if erratic wrestler and I suspect those two will trades wins over the next three years.
I'd like to know more about Foca/Ruth. Foca's a NJ state champ, IM #33 overall recruit. He hit a TD and then scored three 4 NF's to lead 14-0 after one period. The second period started neutral and there was no scoring. Ruth began on top in the 3rd and rode out Foca. So did he just get caught in an awkward position and turned three times before he could escape? Did he cut too much weight too quickly and hadn't recovered (in which case I'd expect the 2nd and 3rd pds to be worse than the 1st)? Ruth then majored Rider's freshman Jerry Andaluz and Mason Reiniche, another Cornell/FLP guy who was IM's #32 overall recruit; then beat Binghamton freshman Jacob Nolan, a NYS champ, and Army senior Sam Williams. How do you get embarrassed by the #33 recruit and then turn around and embarrass the #32 recruit? Inquiring minds want to know.
Word has it that Gallik was nursing a dinged ankle during w-offs, not 100%. He pinned Grant Cuomo, a NYS champ and IM #72 recruit, by reversing him onto his back; did the same thing two bouts later to Army's Will Lucie. Gallik now 107-0 lifetime, HS and college, in bouts ending by fall.
Looking at the scoring summaries, Resnick's loss to Aguilar was 2-1, not 1-1. Escape plus riding time vs. escape adds up to 2-1 on my calculator. His win over Sean Foley doesn't appear to be in tb2; lots of scoring in the first period for a 10-3 decision.
Kudos to Ryan Pomrinca for defeating IM #8 recruit Beau Bartlett in the rideouts; and to Connor McGonagle for taking Bartlett into OT. Bartlett's headed to Penn State next year.
Most surprising results of the day to me were titles by Matt Kazimir and Ricky Stamm. Kazimir was 16-5 at 133 as a freshman last year, seeded 6th at EIWA but did not place. Cutting too much weight, maybe, and more comfortable at 141? Stamm's a RS soph for Hofstra, bounced around between 165 and 174 last year, took 7th at EIWAs at 174. Went 23-6 in his true freshman year, 8-17 last year. We'll need to keep an eye on those two.
