Not bad...not bad at all
Although not your father's PSU the Nits are still plenty tough and Lehigh held their own. Encouraging efforts from all and particularly three youngsters, Lane, Hoffman and Meyer. All have nice upsides and all absolutely need to stay in the lineup. Lane is long and a pinner and Meyer has clearly found his way to the weight room. Dude is slapped together and damn good. Hoffman just keeps getting better and better.
As an aside if Luke Karam wants to wrestle he needs to suck down to 141, thinking he would be tough there and that would complete a nice lineup.

**** Good analysis. Even Lobeck, never stopped fighting against a far more skilled wrestler. Berge and Brooks are going to be elite, so there is no shame in losing to them. Hall (not at all physically imposing but his speed, strength and technique are amazing) and Cassar (same attributes) will be N Champs again, but both Jordans will be on the podium also again. Can/Will Karam decide he wants to wrestle this year by cutting to 141? Pomrinca (hurt), will keep us in matches with his defense but not likely to do much at The Show. Love the strides Paetzell has made. Not overly big or imposing but hard nosed and tenacious, (definitely AA potential). A big Thank You to all the wrestlers and coaches for keeping focused. Keep up the good work.

Luke certified at 149 so forget about 141.
Re: Not bad...not bad at all
Lobeck was up a weight, too. He's been wrestling 133 so far.
Just a quick note: Princeton lost to Oklahoma State last night, 18-15, after forfeiting 165 (depth is a bit of a problem with that team). At 184 Travis Stefanik beat Anthony Montalvo in sudden victory. Now, Chris Weiler beat Stefanik fairly easily in our dual, but collapsed against Montalvo a week earlier. We've heard that the flu ran through our upper weights a few weeks ago; assuming Montalvo was 100% last night, it shows that Chris was a pretty sick puppy the night of the Oklahoma State dual and really took one for the team.

Very happy to be so wrong. Meyer is a keeper.

Re: Not bad...not bad at all
Meyer is basically 1-8 this year against D1 wrestlers..... he's game and tough, but undersized at 165.....I believe he could be a very good 157 pound wrestler but let's not get to high on what was a very gutty performance against Joseph who quite honestly looked very rusty....if we are going to defend our guys when they wrestle under the weather, gas out and so on we should look with honest eyes at the other guys also.........I hope Meyer grows into his roll as Lehigh's 165 pound wrestler, but so far he has shown me an ability to fight hard and gut out tough losses as an undersized guy at his weight class........
Pretty funny that OK State wins basically on a failed skin check forfeit by Princeton at 165, seems like they are being tougher on skin crud this year than they have in the past.......which is a good thing.......
Both Karam and Meyer are going to have a tough time the next couple years barring injuries (knock on wood) to Humphrys and Hoffman.....I can't see Humphrys moving up to 165, doesn't have the length, especially for the rides he preferes.....so that keeps Hoffman at 149 also.......
I liked the match Lane wrestled against RBY......Paetzell did his job against an over matched opponent....
Jakobsen needs a take down move.....
Kutler is a beast but Hall is just crazy good.....
Wood looked like he is feeling better and fought hard.....same with Weiler.....felt bad for LoBeck getting thrown into that matchup at 141, but he gave it his best
Anyway that's my thoughts......

Re: Not bad...not bad at all
How ironic is it that Meyer has one takedown in his four dual meet bouts, and it came against the 2x NCAA champ? (Against #14 Wittlake, 7-1 Cuomo, #11 Wentzel, #1 Joseph) And it wasn't a cheapie, either -- solid move and he overcame Joseph's resistance.

That's a very good point. I was tough on Chris after the OSU bout, as I think he has a ton of potential that has yet to be fully tapped. His total collapse would be explained by the flu, especially as it looked like Chris could have his way in the first period, and he kept going for the bout ending cradle.jdalu75 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2019 8:42 am Lobeck was up a weight, too. Brooks, on the other hand, is future National Champion material. No dishonor losing to him. Cael burned his redshirt for him to compete last night. Rumor on the Penn State forum is that he will be their 184 moving forward, and that Shakur Rasheed will move back up to 197 when he returns to the lineup.
The whole team battled the entire night. Awesome effort. No one can question the effort a single person in the lineup put forth last night. Some great bouts. Pat really had them ready.
I thought Kutler looked d*mned good last night - if you can leave the first period out of the equation. Had one solid takedown against Hall, and almost had a second. IMO, he outwrestled Hall after the first period.
By the way, speaking of skin checks, that is why Farro was out of the lineup last night. Pomrinca due to an injury.
