Pat Santoro's Candor

Post by Oracle » Tue Dec 10, 2019 7:42 am

Very few programs consider their fans like Lehigh does. Ohio State and Iowa come to mind. Lehigh has match notes prior to every dual and re-caps after. Coach does a mid-week TV interview. Coach also stands up after each dual and tournament session to speak to fans about the team's performance. Coach feeds news to the LUWN newsletter injh lieu of writing his own missive which would be redundant. Plus, Denny does a great job. Coach holds in-season dinners for the benefit of the LWC, fans and parents. Please tell me who does more, I'd like to know?

After the PSU match, Pat stood there and told the truth -- time to win some of these big matches. He was careful to praise the effort but in the end, it's about winning and he knows that. Refreshing. Pat also knows it's a long grind and guys learn things as they go along. Many of the guys will be quite different come March. Lehigh's non-conference schedule is very, very tough. The EIWA schedule is also rugged.

Leadership, IMO, is something you know when you see it. Pat Santoro has it. The team knows it. Parents know it. The AD knows it.

^^^Can there be any college wrestling fan in the United States of American who does not realize that Pat Santoro is a fabulous, off-the-chart, incredible recruiter? If we tried to put together a short list of Div I wrestling recruiters the past 15 years in the whole country, say the 4 or 5 top coaches, I would be certain that Pat Santoro would be on that list. Santoro's an incredible wrestling recruiter and you obviously could go back to his incredible recruiting when he was a Lehigh assistant coach. LUNJ - Who do you feel you need to convince? The Iowa fans? -Allen Brown (WR.com)

The purpose of AB's posting was to degrade Pat's coaching by saying he always has the top talent, so why is lehigh not Penn St or Iowa. He hated Pat and Lehigh after Pat left Maryland

Apologies. Not my intention. I think he liked and respected Pat actually. The Lehigh fans were what got his goat. This post was from roughly 10 years ago.

On we go...

Of course I agree with John on this. Pat's been doing this (leading) successfully for a very long time (really the point of my posting a 10 year old quote) As facetious as it was, it was the truth and everyone (including AB) knew it....still holds even more so.

And next year's group is an off-year; we didn't have much scholly money available.

Fully agree with Oracle's original post. I think Pat Santoro fits the Lehigh head coaching position like a glove.
