Senior Nationals...

Post by D3 for LU » Sat Dec 21, 2019 1:32 pm

Darian Cruz just wrestled a good tactical match w/ Sean Russell, winning 5-2.
After yielding a step out point to Russell early in the 1st... he struck w/ a TD plus a gut wrench for a 4-1 lead after one.
2nd pd with some great defense, he yeilded caution +1pt for Russell close the match to 4-2 (TD wasn't going to do it for SR as DC had criteria for two 2pt moves on his ledger.)
Russell was working on a head pinch but time ran out before he hit 90 deg... & lost a point from the unsuccessful challenge.
Darian now gets Spencer Lee in the QF ( 3rd seed to DC's 6th seed.)

Cruz beats Russell 5-2 in a snoozer. Gets Lee in quarters.

Sorry you felt that way, BP... not all bouts can be high fliers, & scoring machines.
The Big Picture here is advancement.
We'll see how he does w/ Spencer Lee.

ps... I've got some good news on NJ HS wrestling scene over at Hackettstown HS.
My nephew, Michael (#2 in the age order/neices & nephews/ of the Day Clan) has his son Matthew, wrestling @ 126 for the Tigers.
Just won his first bout of the season vs Vorhees HS, 8-3 (according to TrackWrestling.) HHS also took the dual over the Vikings as well. 8-)

Hey D3. Not complaining about Cruz advancing of course! Wasn’t much action is all I’m saying. Surprised to see Kadeem Samuels out there though he lost to Heflin.

Kudos to your nephew’s son for getting in the black right away. Voorhees is usually pretty tough.

Yes... as a team, they're usually tough.
Back before the whole district realignment happened... Dist 17(?) usually had Hunterdon Central, North Hunterdon, & Vorhees would trade around the top three between themselves, ALL scoring way above 100pts each while the rest of the district grabbed any place they could.
imho... looks like a rebuilding year for the Vikings.

Darian has become a defensive wrestler and not quite sure why? Started his senior year and has carried over into his international career. Spencer Lee will win easily.

Sounds like you're clairvoyant mook-ster.
Even though most of Lee's points were TD's and step outs, narry an offensive point from DC.
(Was expecting some scoring from Darian... :| )
