F+M Open

Post by Richb-3 » Sat Jan 04, 2020 10:32 am

Clickbait, we appear to have no one there.

Only about 122 registered, but they are using ten mats. So they could do the event in four hours.

Was there not a time when either this event, or Millersville, on Martin Luther King or Presidents day? Definitely they have been on Sundays. And drew a lot bigger numbers, like 300

We just had a discussion on the 2020 Recruits thread about the possibility of Too Much Wrestling. Now adjust that to the college level. The Wilkes Open was 12/22, South Beach and Midlands were 12/29-30, the Scuffle was 1/1-2, the F&M Open is 1/4, and the Hitchcock is 1/11. We had guys attend three of the first four. How much is too much, in an era when some coaches are trying to reduce bout loads?

Anyone who's not competing much is either dinged, having academic issues, or not all that interested. That's true for every team.

I think I counted 9 guys with six or fewer bouts, 3 with zero. Of course we don't know the health Status of any of them (save Loebeck who just wrestled). F+M certainly not for guys guys like Meyers and Weiler.

Carl wrestled 40 bouts a year, and was obviously almost always healthy. so he did about 32 each year before BiG12s.

I would certainly think 30 as a max for very healthy guys before EIWAs for our team.

That same number seems reasonable for most PIAA guys It would max them at around 45. (a few more for guys in districts where the road to Hershey is very short. Unfortunately, I have seen some kids at like 58.

BTW, a quick count puts the entrants total in the 170s. If Hunter Ladnier makes it to the finals at 157 he'll be right at the 6-bout daily limit.

Which means they'll be lucky to have any lower place winners

The other semi-finalists all had byes; one guy had two. But I expect a lot of "RULE" results; or even worse, results shown as forfeits that are actually RULE enforcements.

If an LU wrestler did 6 bouts at the Princeton open. 3 at Journeyman, all 15 duals, the max at EIWA save the 3 guys who wrestle one of the two pigtails, and 8 at NCAA (again max save pigtails), that is 38. 38 seems like a reasonable max for a guy who is very healthy. Probably very unlikely that some one would get 6-6-8 at the 3 individual tourneys, so say 36.
