Re: Coaching Change
Was a strange year for Navy in general with roster moves and such, but they came on nicely at EIWA's.....have a nice recruiting class coming in led by Cerniglia (spelling?) who beat Lawrence in PA state finals (in somewhat disputed fashion).......
Interesting to see who his replacement will be......

Re: Coaching Change
Although not explicitly stated as a reason, the Annapolis Capital Gazette points out that Army had won 5 of the last 6 All-Academy Championships, and Sharrat says Army is recruiting more wrestlers.
Re: Coaching Change
I'm very sorry to hear this. I've only known the coach for the past few years; he's always been very gracious and helpful whenever I've contacted him.

Unlimited funding, legal prep school stashing, the very best facilities, reasonable alumni support, strong administrative support, beautiful location, free tuition + salary for all students. This is one of the very best jobs available and they should have their pick of the college coaching world.
Re: Coaching Change
All true. Plus a very strong tradition and rich history.

USNA extended spring break for up to 2 weeks until March 28, and is working to begin remote instruction about March 20. Academy not shutting down, per se, but virtually no access to buildings and most events cancelled for now.

I guess one of the limitations on the athletics programs is that the athletes have other demands on their time that those at other colleges don't. No three-a-day practices, no redshirting, no light semesters to maintain eligibility, no athletics dorms. Elite athletes probably don't consider the service academies because they can't devote enough time to their sports to excel at the highest levels.
Not to mention that their guaranteed job upon graduation includes the possibility of being shot at.
Thinking about it -- if you'd asked me three years ago who would be Navy's EIWA champs in 2020, I would have answered Hovis and Prince. Cody Trybus? Tanner Skidgel winning his second? Nahh.

Re: Coaching Change
Greater likelihood of us civilians being shot than Naval Academy graduates serving their obligatory 5 years.
