The article I read an hour ago said that it's being seriously discussed now, between Tokyo and the IOC. A whole lot more reasonable than the IOC idiot a few weeks ago who said that the contract calls for the Games to be held in 2000, so any date after that is invalid.

The Tokyo organizers are going to begin to look at the impact of delays of one month, two months, five months, one year, etc. Part of the issue is whether the venues will be available on alternate dates.

I always wondered about holding the event in Tokyo in July. The 1964 Games were in mid-October. Tokyo has a reputation for being miserably hot and humid in July and August (think Chicago without the fake pizza) and September is typhoon season. The Mexico City games were also in October. Maybe a three-month postponement isn't the worst thing in the world. Perhaps the Summer Olympics should be the "Summer" Olympics.

I've read and heard that one year postponement is only (Best?) option due to disruption in athletes' schedule(s) in their sports. Not sure how true this is. Or as if Covid19 isn't the biggest disruption in young athletes' lifetimes.

Also, the bit about Tokyo venues being available a year from now? Olympics is the 800 pound gorilla, other events will change.

Also, The Munich Olympics were a September event.

Los Angeles is also to hot in July and August. As is September. Probably October is best, But they want to use existing University Housing, instead of building new housing. I am pretty sure all the units would be occupied by renters or buyers within a month after the end of the games, even if they have room for 20,000

No great loss, there is way less interest in the Olympics than, say, 20 years ago. Certainly less than 40 years ago.

So many goofy events. Synchronized swimming? Snowboarders on a half pipe, trampoline, rhythmic gymnastics, BMX, canoeing, sailing, greco wrestling. Now freestyle down to 6 weights. Just don't really care about much of it.

Maybe they'll postpone Leap Day also so it will be exactly a year.
