Caruso 3rd String?
Re: Caruso 3rd String?
You're simply denying the obvious. The old 118s became the new 125s. We didn't suddenly have a bunch of kids without a weight class. Sure, there were always a few Weavers but you keep ignoring that the 118s wrestled. The 125s weren't the old 126s they were the old 118s. So your argument is completely fallacious.
Re: Caruso 3rd String?
This happened in 1998 -- the NCAA added seven pounds to each weight class and took away things like saunas, rubber suits, and overnight recovery time. It happened during the season; I don't remember any 134-pounders suddenly turning into 133s.

Re: Caruso 3rd String?
Sorry, Oracle, I'm with Gimp on this. Perhaps a visual will help.
Old school weight classes: 118, 126, 134, 142, 150, 158, 167, 177, 190, UNL
Present day: 125, 133, 141, 149, 157, 165, 174, 184, 197, 285.
Thus 133 & 134 are different classes; as are 141 & 142, 149 & 150, 157 & 158.
Capiche?

Like I said, I'm not that smart.
Re: Caruso 3rd String?
Here's what I posted on TheMat in response to the article initially posted by Flo:
Burley's best season was his senior year. To properly account for weight classes from the 1950s to present day, this is more representative:
115/118/125: Gene Mills
123/126/133: Mike Caruso
130/134/141: Mike Frick
137/142/149: Darryl Burley
147/150/157: Jordan Burroughs
157/158/165: Donny Pritzlaff
167/167/174: Myles Martin (he was better at 184, but won a title here & can't beat Campbell)
177/177/184: Chris Campbell
191/190/197: Damion Hahn
UNL/Hwt/285: Steve Mocco

Re: Caruso 3rd String?
The mid-season rule change forbade individuals from making the 134-to-133 move that you suggest.

I was responding to jdalu75, which aligned with the point you made earlier.
