Good morning everyone! Hope you all had a great 4th of July.
Today the wrestling community is reacting to the stunning news of Stanford dropping their wrestling program; a program that was really on the rise. Two #3 ranked freshman studs and a solid team with good recruits scheduled to enroll this fall. Add to that they just offered Kerry McCoy the top post at their Regional Training Center (RTC) -- this is dirty pool since this decision was obviously in the works for quite some time and the AD said nothing to coach Borelli when he asked for Kerry. It stinks to high heaven. We should all sincerely hope this doesn't harm Kerry financially -- he would certainly be justified to sue if they don't live up to the contract. RTC is gray area. Stanford has promised this upcoming year but wrestlers may decide to opt out now. We'll see soon enough who jumps into the transfer portal. Stanford's Shane Griffith is from NJ and was a legit title threat this past season. His weight class is 165. ding, ding, ding.
Ivies have cancelled fall sports -- nothing yet on winter and spring therefore wrestling in limbo. B1G is talking about 'conference only' competitions -- that's strange.
Meanwhile, summer has always been a time for wrestlers to work out, especially in-coming recruits who venture into the room to mix it up. Guess that's all kaput. Without year-round training the sport reverts to how it was in the old days. The silver lining may be less injuries. We can hope anyway.
Have a great week end everyone!
Week-End Salvo
Re: Week-End Salvo
An obvious move -- not just for incoming Stanford wrestlers -- would be for new HS graduates to take a gap year instead of entering college immediately. Gives a year for things to settle down and they'd still have five years to wrestle four.

Ivy League guidance for incoming freshmen:
https://cornellbigred.com/documents/202 ... 7_8_20.pdf
Asked and answered:
Q: May an incoming student elect to delay their enrollment beyond Fall 2020 if their
planned athletic participation for the 2020-21 academic year is disrupted as a result of
the COVID-19 pandemic?
A: Yes – however, students should be aware that local institutional policies will apply and
may limit opportunities to return to campus at a later date. Contact your coach or
compliance administrator for details relative to local policies. Any requests to defer
admission and enrollment to the institution must be approved through normal
institutional channels that make those decisions for all admitted students.

What we have now is a whole bunch of I don’t knows. Will there be a wrestling season? How many other schools will drop the sport? How many EIWA programs are at risk?
Unfortunately, the recent surge in positive COVID-19 cases across the country has raised additional red flags.
Even if one has doubts about its severity, this seems to be the grim reality of pandemic life.

One thing strikes me is that facilities wise Lehigh and many less urban schools could handle fall and spring sports at the same time. But big city schools? I think Georgetown has one field for practice and competition for Football, Field Hockey, M - W Soccer, M+W Lacrosse. How is that going to work, Others All but soccer on a turf field, with Soccer on the outfields of Soft and baseball.
of course if HS goes that way athlete conflicts (like when Pa moved all Girls Soccer to the Fall, conflict with FH
