Burroughs RTC

Jordan Burroughs announced today that after this year he will be training out of the Penn RTC. They have also recently added McFadden and McKenna. NJ RTC has also been making moves after adding Downey (former), Graff, Jackson and Ashnault. Lehigh RTC has seemed to be very idle in all this. Is Buxton a great coach and struggles with recruiting? Is it time to get someone younger? I think they should go hard after Cooperman.

When Cooperman joined Cornell's staff many felt he was instrumental in Mike Grey's decommitment to Lehigh.

Ah, yes... the Grey Affair!
That was when the Wrestling Report forum went nuts w/posts.
The energy that was generated could have powered the entire NEPA for about a month! ;)
(Meybee more than that! :P )

We're talking about a Hall of Fame coach, Jeff Buxton - a legend.

Some samples of recruiting
Buxton recruited Perrelli away from his alma mater (CU), which tried to re-sign him.
He was instrumental in preventing D.Cruz from taking higher offers from 2-3 rival clubs
He had a major role in landing Chance Marsteller.
Around same time had a major role stealing Pete Renda from the Penn RTC
He had a role retaining Robt Hamlin's LVWC training/coaching services at an attractive Club price: free

Great coach?
Pat Santoro thinks so, since Bux took his 4 yrs at Beca (1x PA 3) and converted him in 1 yr at Blair into a 2x NCAA (4x A/A), the 1st-ever achieving either of those feats at Pitt. Pat was OW Nat Prep in the Blair yr - never r/s at Pitt

Same thing for Ed Ruth: never Top 3 in PIAA; in 1 Blair yr became 1 of the nation's Top 2 before becoming NCAA 3,1,1,1 at Penn State.

He's been Joey McKenna's freestyle coach at Blair, at Lehigh and globally in competition; JM essentially worked at LVAC for free during his r/s and initial opt-out year, wearing the Club's singlet a # of years.

Everybody gets older one day at a time but Buxton still travels the globe coaching USA Wrestling; only a few yrs ago they offered him the head job which he declined, due to continued loyalties to Lehigh and NJ.

>>>>>>>> Not exactly. Both Peery brothers were 3X NCAA champs and earned AA status every year they were eligible to compete.

Your over-all point is a good one. What Penn RTC is doing doesn't detract from what LVWC has done. However, Brandon Slay is putting a nice club together. Dave Pottruck is still supporting this effort. If you haven't see Gene Zanetti's interview with Dave on YouTube it's fantastic. Well worth anyone's time to watch -- about 24 minutes. Considering Dave Pottruck's upbringing in Levittown, NY (not an affluent community to say the least) and what he accomplished in his life -- well, it's quite remarkable and worth listening to.

Buxton is great, extremely well respected in the sport and his role as a coach with Team USA is very marketable. The difference is money! It takes huge donations & fundraising to pay for top tier athletes like JB. I would say JB will be getting paid equal to the LVWC roster of athletes. PRTC is still paying Hall, McKenna, Lizak,Vallimont, McFadden, Perry, Honis, Correnti and as Coach Slay. My guess is their salary cap for the coaching staff & roster when JB & Hall gets to philly may reach 750k a yr.
