More like by vote of the NWCA, the guys who've always determined All-Americans in wrestling. They declared that Wood and 159 others are A/A's, mookie believes he has the authority to rescind that. Guess who I'm going with?

I was planning on taking a look at him. 2x NJ state champion, Intermat #82 overall recruit. Tallest guy on the mat for both his HS titles (hard to tell but I'd guess he's 6' 3" or 6' 4"). Nice but not the sort of thing that sets me turning handsprings.

He entered seven tournaments, won four, 28-4 record, all but three bouts against Div I wrestlers. Okay, that's impressive for a guy just out of HS; esp. at 285 where the smart folks insist it generally takes awhile to come up to speed.

12 quick pins, so he's an athletic 285 who probably has a good throw move.

Best wins over Slavikouski by fall in the finals of the Binghamton Open and NCAA qualifiers Ngati and Miller at the Southern Scuffle. Worst losses: none.

I'll take Wood, but he's going to need to take Fernandes seriously.

Here's his full record, including last year's record for his opponents.

Princeton Open 4-0, 1st

So Fernandes was 1-2 vs. Top 16's, the win very impressive. I believe he was the recruit who told the media: "Why would I go to Lehigh when they lose all those bouts in the post-season in the upper weights?"

Heavyweight A/As medals:
Lehigh..... 13 (5 medals last decade)
Cornell.... 0

Gotta' give credit for hoping to make CU history

Proximity to LV, allowed to follow in Easton Express Times while he was in High School. This kid might only have 10 losses in his career including World Freestyle competition. He's going to be good and too athletic for Jordan Wood. I believe he's going to skunk him 2-0. Fernandes wins in dual and EIWA final.

It's your opinion that "upper weights" means "heavyweight only?" If not, you should do the same analysis for 197 and 184.

Can you link to a source for that quote? Thanks.

I looked up Wrestlingstats' comparison feature and it's obvious that Fernandes doesn't have a long enough track record for it to be taken seriously.

Wood #5, Fernandes #141: predicts Wood WBF. Fernandes is 7-2 vs common opponents, Wood 10-1.

Picks Fernandes over #8 Slavikouski 8-7 (their bout was in Slav's first college competition; 3-1 Fernandes going into the 3rd pd; Slav chose bottom and got turned).

Picks #28 Brendan Furman over Fernandes 10-4.

Judging by his 2019-20 results I expect that if Fernandes is listed as Cornell's starter he'll begin the season ranked in the Top 20.
