Eligibility??? ?

Post by RichH » Wed Oct 14, 2020 10:19 am

NCAA is extending the 1 year eligibility waiver to Winter athletes. Guys can wrestle this year without losing a year of eligibility. Moreover, at least for seniors I think, the scholarship will not count against the 9.9 cap.
How does this impact Lehigh?

I'm waiting to see the official announcement. "The NCAA grants an extra year of eligibility" can also be read as "The NCAA grants an extra year to complete eligibility" which is something else all together.

So no reason for Humphreys or Wood to redshirt since they're being granted another year.

No reason to wrestle Humphreys or Wood. One can still take his redshirt and the other an Olympic year and still have the year to complete their eligibility. If it is an additional year of eligibility versus a year to complete eligibility, then this gives incredible flexibility for incoming freshmen to develop. This year would essentially not count, then they could still have a redshirt year and then 4 years of eligibility. With 2021 incoming class, you essentially next year would have 3 years of accumulated freshmen eligibility.

There is already talk of the concept of the first 5 time NCAA Champion,
