Might be the next Robin Reed!Spladle1989 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 08, 2021 5:24 pm Matt Rodriguez just won the 132 lb state championship... isnt he more likely a 133 or 141 in college than a 125? Has he said he was wrestling “up” for more of a challenge or something?

Gimp, I worked with Robin Reed, I knew Robin Reed, Robin Reed was a friend of mine. Matt, is no Robin Reed.
Re: Matt Rodriguez
Cutting weight once for a freestyle tournament while not under NCAA rules and team supervision is a little different than having to make weight 20 times in five months while carrying a full load of courses. But I might have heard wrong.NothingMeaningful wrote: ↑Mon Mar 08, 2021 5:20 pmColaiocco wrestled Arujau at 125 on January 8. (who knows what the actual weight was), losing to Vito 11-0 in 3:40. Gonna go up two weight classes in nine months?

Re: Matt Rodriguez
So I did discover something related to Florida sports. You may have seen articles about certain states preventing Transgender athletes from playing HS sports on girls teams. I, noted that the states with this legislation all have under 40% of their HS athletes being under 40% female. (National average is 43%, Pa is 48%. Florida's percentage is similar to the national average. But they have fewer HS athletes than Pa, with 150% the population. about 5,000 more boys and 10,000 fewer girls.
I suspect that explains why Ridgeview is in the smallest classification, whereas in PA Ridgeview would be in the larger class, and not even towards the bottom. Fl 367 schools with 8000 wrestlers as opposed to 473 with 9500. I am guessing a school like Northern Lehigh or Pen Argyl would not even have a wrestling program

No longer on roster
Re: Matt Rodriguez
Is he in the transfer portal? Had a pretty nice resume coming out of high school. Room is pretty stacked around his weight with Hines, Connor, Manzona, Seymor, etc.
Wish him the best.

Re: Matt Rodriguez
Yes, by now he's been expected to enter the portal and we'll all know more if/when he commits to another school. I don't have much detail but believe this could turn out somewhat similar to Frank Cagnina, who loved Lehigh (as did his Dad) but not so much the classroom part of the experience (the main part). I still recall a brief but passionate conversation with Mr. C; really loved the school - before Frank did well at Missouri Valley (2 titles?). I've been impressed with how Ryan Anderson went from a commitment to Iowa St, to a verbal to Nebraska (didn't get in there, either), then Centenary, now Binghamton. That's perseverance, for sure. Someone had talked to his dad jr yr HS and we were his top choice. I hope he does well at SUNY-B.
