Wood's Olympic Redshirt
Wood's Olympic Redshirt
What's the point? There are many wrestlers in his weight class much much more likely to make the Olympic team than he and since everyone is getting a "free year" this season, what additional benefit in terms of eligibility is he getting? And he's not getting the benefit of training at the Olympic Training Center, is he? What am I missing?
Re: Wood's Olympic Redshirt
Maybe he’s sick of school and wants a break? Maybe he thinks just concentrating on wrestling will give him a better chance at an NCAA title when he gets back to College? Maybe he thinks he has a shot at the Olympics? Maybe he doesn’t want to be competing during COVID? Maybe he didn’t have confidence that there would be an NCAA wrestling season this year? Lots of possibilities. His life, his decision.
Re: Wood's Olympic Redshirt
He's a terrific collegiate heavyweight so just hope he hangs around and wins 4 or 5 EIWA titles and at some point gets that national title.
Re: Wood's Olympic Redshirt
Is it not the case that for wood to win five he needs to win this year?
I guess someone could have won 5 PSAC titles in the normal years, since that was a December event

Re: Wood's Olympic Redshirt
Matter was specifically discussed on FRL episode 591 (start at the 42:45 mark of the podcast). The guys said Jordan made the decision with it not being a full year and him not being on full scholarship to take the year off to work and train. Then planned to come back next year for a full year of wrestling.
Looking fwd to seeing the big man for a full year in ‘21-22.

According to DRD,
" Jordan Wood is fighting to return after giving back his scholarship for an Olympic R/S, then learning the NCAA would allow him six years."
