Meyer
Meyer
I recall many on this site last year claiming that Meyer was a "true 157" and was handicapped being "undersized" wrestling at 165. Funny that this year - when the team could presumably use him at 157 - he apparently can't make the weight.

Re: Meyer
Weight distribution...his frame is way better suited for 157 than 165 (to be read length/reach/Cole Walter)....
if you don't have the generally correct build for your weight you need to be uber athletic or crazy good or both.....Meyer seems like a gamer but to me he doesn't have the physical attributes to upend the top 25 165 lbers.....he's good enough/game enough to compete/keep matches close with the top 25 guys but not consistently win...all that said I hope I'm wrong, because the kid battles....

Re: Meyer
It's been a crazy year. If he was just cleared to begin practice 10 days ago (I don't know anything about his situation, this is just a f'instance) then he might have cert'd at 165 on his way down to 157. Most guys lose weight once practice begins.
Remember when Troy Letters was a freshman? We were hearing that he'd never hold 165 in college. He did, all five years -- the intensity of a Div I practice room kept the weight off.

Re: Meyer
To me, Meyer's has looked noticeably smaller than his last two opponents. Trying to get down to 157 but can't quite make it? Is there anything in the rules, esp. his certified weight, which would prevent him from going 157 at the EIWAs if he can make the weight by then?
Re: Meyer
To me, everybody on our team usually looks noticeably smaller than all their opponents; that's been my opinion for decades. Meyer fits right in. In order to be able to wrestle at 157 at EIWAs he would need to cert at 157 (if he hasn't already; it doesn't actually require weighing 157), lose no more than 1.5% of his body weight each week, and then beat out whoever else wants to wrestle at that weight.whiz wit wrote: ↑Mon Feb 08, 2021 8:31 am To me, Meyer's has looked noticeably smaller than his last two opponents. Re: Meyer
I won't give specific numbers since not on the public site but he can't make 157 by 2/26.whiz wit wrote: ↑Mon Feb 08, 2021 8:31 am To me, Meyer's has looked noticeably smaller than his last two opponents. Re: Meyer
I would have agreed with this in the past, but the last 4 or 5 years our team has matched up pretty well in size. This year though, outsized again.

We're outsized again?!?

It's the first thing my wife noticed the first time I took her to a dual back in the late 1980s.
I always thought it was an optical illusion caused by the brown singlets, but we don't always wear those anymore.

Re: Meyer
Iowa's Athletic Training staff and Strength, Conditioning, Nutrition staff are larger than the entire Lehigh Athletic Department.
Yes, Lehigh wrestlers are a weight-class undersized at 6-7 weight class each year. At heavyweight, you better be an athlete like McMullen (Easton, PA/Northwestern) at heavyweight if smaller or an absolute skilled relentless wrestler wrestling up a weightclass like Frick.
Some programs recruit a wrestler, the big time programs recruit a weight-class and expect you to be there for 4-5 years. I don't think we will see Lehigh ever crack the Top 5 again.
