Broadcast of Wresle-offs?
Broadcast of Wresle-offs?
Hey guys, last year they did not broadcast (webcast whatever) the Wrestle-offs. I don't see anything on the schedule for broadcast info. Anyone know?
Nice event to see, but not an event worth taking a day off and driving five hours down from Boston to see.

Re: Broadcast of Wresle-offs?
They schedule it for 7 o'clock on a work day, it's not a true wrestle-offs event, and they think by not streaming it they'll fill the arena. All they're doing is pissing off a big chunk of their fan base.
Re: Broadcast of Wresle-offs?
Not worth attending. It's basically a giggle fest.
Re: Broadcast of Wresle-offs?
It's been held on a weekday night at least 90% of the time in the last 50 yrs
Its maximum avg att -- over 1,600 avg for five years from 2004-2010 -- was on Tues. Very few schools could touch that level of att.
Historically -- going back decades -- only a couple of bouts are worth driving to see. It's pretty hard to cheer with any enthusiasm against your own team.
It hasn't been on video the last 3 yrs, I believe -- nor have over 90% of all other schools' w-offs. So where's the beef?
But feel free to pee & moan as if it's the end of the world, as you perceive it. Non-alumni? Stay the heck out of here. But doing so as an alumnus is a pretty peculiar thing to post publicly.

That's complete b.s, not that it would matter to a Cornell fan.
Is making up falsehoods about league rivals really that appealing to you?
The staff finally asked for a common sense decision to stop doing what almost no other school was doing.
Why don't you go bother all those schools who don't? It'll take up a LOT of time, sparing us from you.

I'm glad everyone here is an expert into the minds of Lehigh Athletics. I believe there will be a stream next week. And I gather Service Electric will broadcast the home matches. They're negotiating some other things for the home season. That's a month away.
Re: Broadcast of Wresle-offs?
Wait a minute. Now I remember. The reason given for the blackout wasn't to increase attendance. It was to avoid opposing coaches and wrestlers being able to scout LU wrestlers. And wasn't it you, Denny, who passed that gem along?
Re: Broadcast of Wresle-offs?
I, like Frenchie, look forward to wrestle offs, partly because nine months have passed without wrestling, and because I look forward to see what the newsbys look like in action even though some of the matches aren't the greatest.
It seems to me streaming the matches would be great way to get people excited early for the upcoming season.
That said, I wouldn't go to the match live because of time and distance.
Please stream the wrestle-offs for us dedicated fans!
And Denny why are you calling Whiz a Cornell fan? He's a staunch Lehigh fan and roomed with a Lehigh wrestler freshman year in the dorms.

For the same reason he thinks that it is Cornell fans that demean other EIWA teams (*cough*SUNY Ithaca*cough*greyshirts*)?
Re: Broadcast of Wresle-offs?
The tradition of the public wrestle-offs is being upheld, but fans need to understand anything meaningful is held in the room (in private.) These days the wrestle-offs are mostly for true frosh to get the feel for Grace Hall.
It's been this way for quite a while. We've just come off watching the Olympics and World's so I'm not so starved for wrestling action that LU wrestle-offs are viewed as so important. They are not. Whether they are streamed or not is irrelevant. The real action will start soon enough. Many questions -- hopefully an equal number of answers.
Have a great week end.
