End of an Era

Post by JAD77 » Sun Mar 10, 2024 6:28 pm

Large block of Princeton fans were wearing shirts emblazoned with:
EIWA
1904-2024
End of an Era

I spoke to a good number of them both during the tournament and at a bar afterwards. They were NOT happy about the Ivy abandoning the league. Also seemed to be the consensus among Cornell fans I spoke to, though they didn’t seem as upset as the Princeton fans.
No one I spoke to could come up with a logical explanation for the defection. The only person who ventured a guess thought the coaches supported it because it made for an easier qualifier with less chance of injury. Also, they all confirmed that Roger Reina held out the longest - he was definitely opposed.
I also spoke to Jordan Leen and Joe Dubuque- both dodged.

I wouldn't even give them automatic qualifiers for pulling this stunt. Seven wild cards, maybe...but I am petty.

I talked to a Princeton fan. He believed that the theory was Ivy League, as a name would have more clout than the EIWA with 11 others besides the IVY teams. "I do not understand your plan, but then you are very small", Treebeard.

Maybe we should just have changed the official name to IVY plus 11?

Has Michael ever been given the nickname TreeBeard? He stands there like a mighty Ent.

>>>>>> In his Flo interview Grey included a comment about focusing in the future on growing the Ivy wrestling tournament—————which makes no sense unless they somehow convince Dartmouth and Yale to add wrestling———which, imo, is the longest of long shots.

He also said Vito's injury is no big deal. He's full of baloney.

I'm glad someone else caught that, I asked my TV what the hell "growing the Ivy tournament" was supposed to mean.

Maybe a full jazz band for the anthem...

The Princeton guy said, Yale could re-establish a men's team if they also have a woman's team. So that is quite possible. By the way, Sacred Heart finished 6th in women's team Almost NCAA.

With Dartmouth Basketball Becoming an NBA G-league team, maybe they could add wrestling. (over the last 65 years Dartmouth Basketball has likely been worse than Lehigh.)

All-time worst:

1973-74 & 74-75 Engineers of Tom Pugliese 4-44 for an .083 winning %

Remember 74-75 team lone win splashed on front page of old Bethlehem Globe-Times, with picture of coach and players in locker room smoking post-game victory cigars . . .

Dartmouth has not been to the NCAA tournament since 1959. Lehigh 4 times, at least.
