Re: Freestyle season
Yeah they got us at EIWA's when all other teams involved......but the last actual mano a mano EIWA dual it was Lehigh with the win.......now they can go play in their Ivy playpen and talk about how they had 9 or 10 champions this year!
Re: Freestyle season
First of all - it's good to see Klehner back.
Bonus points - that's what is needed when counting on 3 or 4 wrestlers at Nationals. Crookham wins, and could very well be National Champ next year - but doesn't produce a ton of bonus points - Crookham last year had 11 bonus wins with 1 pin and 6 TF.
Beard and Nate are both capable of putting up a lot of points. Last year Nate had 16 bonus with 6 pins and 5 TF and Beard had an incredible 27 bonus wins with 3 pins and 17 TF, but bonus wins were hard to come by in KC (Beard had 3, Luke 2, Nate 0, and Crookham 0 - with 0 pins and only 1 TF for the entire team).
Stanich had 13 bonus wins last season with 6 pins and 5 TF, but he might not wrestle next year.
Lehigh will need a couple more to step up and get a couple wins each - hopefully with a couple of bonus wins thrown in to the mix. I think the talent is in the room - it's just a matter of who actually gets there.

Even with their disappointing showing at the Nationals, LU was the top finisher among private universities. And only Stanford among the privates finished on a comparable level.

However,.. I look for Shapiro to be Cornell's next NCAA Champ!

The high school kid then promptly got teched by Mesenbrink 13-3Spladle1989 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 19, 2024 11:22 am Cornell’s “transcendetal talent” Shapiro just got teched by a high school junior at trials 12-1 in his opening match….

It's really a shame Messenbrink didn't stay at Cal Baptist.

Re: Freestyle season
If Shapiro has national championship in mind he may want to watch where Mesenbrink ends up weight wise because I don't see him beating Mesenbrink.......last year Shapiro was third at 157 and Mesenbrink was second at 165.....many think Mesenbrink was a small 165 and good chance this coming year he goes 157 in Penn State's lineup.......Shapiro cutting a bit and going 149 might be his best bet, he's not a overly large 157........
