I was very optimistic that the defense would be better this year but they have certainly defeated my expectation. Had our defenses played like this during the Shafnisky, Mayes, Bragalone years, we could have been a surprise contender nationally IMO.

The 2016 team had a pretty good defense imo. They faced some legit competition that year ('Nova, Penn, Princeton and Fordham) and hung in. The performance against UNH in the playoffs was a disaster. From Nick getting mono and Caslow getting hurt against Lafayette to Folmar basically checking out it was a mess. It's a shame because that team had legit potential.

I made the trip to Durham. It was a loooong drive home. I never in a million years saw that bad of a loss coming. Of all the games I've attended (and it's a ridiculous amount) I don't think I've ever been so shocked by an outcome. All the Lehigh fans there were shell-shocked.

No doubt it's improved but the unit still struggled against the only two respectable teams on the schedule. Fordham and DeMorat might be the stiffest test they have left. Lafayette has some playmakers on offense too (Shoemaker and Pearson) but they might have completely imploded by late November. Sacred Heart has been hit or miss on offense....

We all knew we had good experience coming back in the secondary and LB corps, but the DL was the big question mark. DL coach has certain got them playing well as a unit. All championships start with defense. If we can keep each opponent from scoring much, we are always in the game as the offense begins to get its swagger. Will be a bit tough with a thin WR corps, so Brisson will have to be creative and use the backs and TE's more. Time for Dalmbach to break out. I like his size and seems to have good hands. We're lucky we have this bye week so Jorge and Bibbens can heal up. Think there is any irony in the fact that the last time we were excited about our defense we had another "Coach K"?

Impressive stuff.

I didn't expect the significant improvement.
