So what is going on with Navy? No Hovis, no Prince. Can't be good for business.

Wasn't aware LIU had joined the EIWA. I have no idea what they are about, but I surmise they are in the genre of a Sacred Heart?

I believe that LIU was admitted in April. My question is why. Doesn't that bring us to 17 teams forcing a pigtail at each weight?

A couple of us at the EIWAs last year as this was being batted about made the offer to have Cornell join the new MAC/EWL merger which would bring them up from 15 to 16 and keep us at 16.
I'm not sure why but it didn't work! :D

Seriously, we need to be encouraging more D1 teams. A minor logistical issue shouldn't prevent that.

LIU announced the merger of its two campus sports programs and the move up to Div I about a year ago. At the time they seemed more suited for the EWL but with the EWL/MAC merger that's off the table. The EIWA voted to admit the 17th team shortly after the tournament, if memory serves.

Geographically the move makes a ton of sense; Hofstra is a few miles away and Columbia's in Manhattan, so a team can pick up other duals on a trip to Noo Yawk. There was some discussion about unbalancing the EIWA brackets but I believe the coaches' vote to admit LIU was unanimous.

This may be the unintended consequence of doing away with the regional qualifiers. LIU is a Div I team and needed a conference in which to qualify. In case no one's noticed, wrestling conferences are becoming few and far between, just as the number of Div I schools is gradually increasing.

Does any know if the 16th + 17th ranked guys will meet in the [ogtail.

If so would they then meet the first seed, or justomly one of the top 8.

We could go to 20 teams with no one having to wrestle more than 7 bouts (if he finishes 3-6), Assumng correct bracketing, like PIAA.

I apologize for being ignorant on this matter but if the merged EWL/MAC was looking for a 16th team wouldn't it be the ideal landing spot for LIU?

I believe that is the intent, although I can't find it explicitly stated in the latest seeding procedure.

Nice to have an alternative board. Good luck Lehigh wrestlers this season!
