Not Too Disappointed
Not Too Disappointed
I think the team had an A- season. They lost to Penn State, of course, on criteria to a very good Pitt team, and to Princeton when they came up on the short end of all five of the close bouts. They had wins over Oklahoma State, Minnesota, Cornell, Arizona State, Missouri and Army, among others. They had a terrific EIWA Tournament, distancing themselves from several teams, including Princeton, that were supposed to be contenders for the team title.
According to flo, if teams wrestled to their wrestlers' seeds at the Nationals, Lehigh would come in 15th. So it would have been a tough road to hoe to make top 10. It's nice to finish the season on a very high note.

Re: Not Too Disappointed
And you probably would have changed your handle to Lutefisk
Re: Not Too Disappointed
... why would anyone change their handle to a whitefish soaked in lye?
(Inquiring minds want to know? )

Re: Not Too Disappointed
To follow-up on whiz whit's original post, before this thread went off the rails and went full Scandanavian , one real positive the last few years has been the strength training. Those of us who have been posting on this and the prior forum for awhile will remember there used to be a real strength disparity between the Lehigh wrestlers and the wrestlers from the BIG conferences. You don't see that anymore. Yes, we've had one or two guys wrestling above their preferred weight, but that happens to all teams. The last few years, hardly anyone from Lehigh has been losing due to a lack of horsepower.
Also, this year's team performed above expectations. If not for the flu bug that hit the team heavily at the beginning of the season, they might have ended with a 14-1 season record. Entering this year, with question marks at 133, 141, 149 and 165, this team solidified quickly and performed exceptionally well. A real testament to the coaches.
One last thing, thank you Jordan Kutler. Has Lehigh ever had a more consistent presence in the lineup? He may not have ended up a National Champion (though this year I wouldn't have bet against him), but even with all the injuries he suffered through the years, he hardly ever missed a dual. One hell of a kid.

Re: Not Too Disappointed
Could not agree more with JAD's thoughts here. Coaches really got this team ready all season. Saw guys with excellent approaches and strategy in just about every match win or lose. Your sentiments on Kutler spot on. Unfortunately ran into Mark Hall's era, but can't remember someone so completely consistent. Just try to take the center of the mat from him.....
Re: Not Too Disappointed
Well also ZV era. Jordan lost to a lower ranked wrestler once in 4 years. At Journeyman, 2 days after his first varsity bout at Bucknell (well maybe someone will find that he was 5th ranked, losing to a 6th ranked. Basically, to me, losing to a guy ranked one below is not an upset save for a 1 or 2.
Also we beat PSU if they bring the lineup they used against AzSU, or the lineup they had left at the end of the year, No Berge, a 197 at hwt, Pomrinca at 141

Re: Not Too Disappointed
I see the NCWA championship is going on with 58 teams, including Club teams from PSU and ISU
Re: Not Too Disappointed
And this is a problem ..... how, exactly?
Other than the lutefisk, that is. That must be an ancient Norwegian's idea of a joke.
