Back-to-back PL champs 2016 and 2017.... but need to get back to relevance in the national FCS scene.

Nova 31. Lehigh. 9

Post by RichH » Sat Sep 08, 2018 3:44 pm

A few takeaways

We actually have a good D. Impressed overall. DBs started out shaky but got better. Nova play action froze them too often in the 1st half. Dl and LBs were stalwart all game. Norris on crutches .

Nova D kicked the crap out of our makeshift OL. I know we're missing Curlin Evans and Motley but c'mon! Brisson did virtually nothing to help us today. Play calling no doubt limited but he just closed the book. 1st down Incomplete pass. 2nd down inside run for a yd or 2. 3rd down incomplete pass. Punt. Thank God for Mish
Christiano gimpy all game . Have him go long over and over? Jorge throttled by double most of the game. Mayes neede to step up under quite difficult conditons. He didnt. Must say neither OL or OC provided any help there.
All of that said, we must be aware Niva is a top 10 team deservedly with an excellent D, which played a major part in our offensive problems.

No. A head injury. The hit actually on his shoulder and neck. Last word evaluation. Guess he's on protocol watch if concussion. If a pinched nerve? Dont know. Perhaps a bit more in postgame.
Dont really care if ready for Navy. Penn and Princeton more relevant.
If OL stays the same that game will be a repeat of today just worse.
Also need to learn about Norris. On crutches.

No info. Staff not saying. Looked like a knee but how bad??? No idea.
Guess we'll find out during the week. 2 deep for Navy could be interesting. For me, I would hope they play it safe with Brags . Actually more important to be healthy for Penn and Princeton..

Defense actually looked pretty good at times today; was more consistent.

But today should have confirmed some things.

From LU's "extra points:" Lehigh has now lost seven straight games against Villanova and eight straight against CAA opponents."

Thus, this game again proves this program's growing inability to beat top-level FCS programs. The lack of depth is evident.

This is not a knock on Lehigh.

The quality of top-level FCS programs, facilities, etc., continues to rise dramatically. It's understandable the PL can't keep up.

Is it time to create a lower classification within FCS with separate playoff structure? ND State, James Madison, Sam Houston and the like have become more like BCS programs.

We'll learn more next week.

Again, I just hope no one gets hurt. Sadly, that wasn't the case this week.
