Lehigh virtual graduation

Post by NothingMeaningful » Sun May 17, 2020 1:40 pm

$250,000 and 33 minutes later, my daughter is a Lehigh graduate.

(I still think it's funny that Lehigh's alma mater is the same tune as Cornell's)

Congratulations to both you and your daughter !!

I hope that she takes what she learned and goes out to do great things.

I think it even funnier that Cornell Alumni think that the Alma-mater of over 100 schools and colleges based on an 18th century drinking song is theirs original. Then again, Cornell is the only one that has/had a 3 credit upperclass level course drinking craft beer.

From Wikipedia:
The first college to have used the tune in a spirit song seems to have been Cornell University. In 1870, students Archibald Weeks and Wilmot Smith wrote "Far Above Cayuga's Waters" and used an adaptation of Thompson's melody. Many other colleges, high schools, and even camps, likely influenced by Cornell's version, have since created their own renditions
And it' not an 18th century drinking song: it was written in 1857, again according to Wikipedia.

Congrats to you and your daughter!
My kids are 28 and 25. No more tuition (for me).
And there both now homeowners!

I'd have retired by now if I didn't have another daughter still in high school.

In the virtual ceremony, there were two photos of wrestlers shown. Pretty sure one was Kutler, but I'm not sure of the other. Did he have a sparse moustache at some point? Who else might it have been?

Her last semester wasn't full credits, so we got a chunk back. And that was a round number, not the exact tally.

We are seriously overinvested in higher education. Wish your daughter well but reading stories of underemployed
college graduates with massive debt, more will start rejecting the mantra that everyone should go to
college.

I guess if you can get credit for a Thursday afternoon of Bacchanalian studies, Wikipedia can be used as a source for a masters' class thesis. :D
