D1 football in the fall?
Re: D1 football in the fall?
Lots or ripples from PL announcement in SI and ESPN.
Forde's article paints a bit broader picture of the impact.
One of you mavens can put up the link if interested.

The SI article, which includes a note that Bowdoin will have no fall sports:

UMass Boston cancels in person classes and fall & winter sports
Re: D1 football in the fall?
HAWAII - September 12th could be in jeopardy unless Gov. Ige eliminates the two week quarantine for all inbound visitors.
Re: D1 football in the fall?
I think Hawaii is already off the table with the no-fly and no overnight restrictions imposed by the PL
Re: D1 football in the fall?
LU students report on 8/20.. So enough time on paper before 1st Saturday in October. In reality, practices would have to shorter. No 2 a days of any sort. Balanced somewhat as all PL team will have the same issues.
Re: D1 football in the fall?
I'm guessing that LU might stagger student move in starting before 8/20to ease the crowding. Could get team. some additional practice time. Would be helpful.

Re: D1 football in the fall?
From Ivy Board: This is a very smart logistical move by the Patriot League. Pushing things back to the beginning of the semester gives two more months for the gathering of information and means that there will be no premature decision to scrap the whole season. However, with the removal of preseason meal costs and expensive hotel stays, there will be significantly less financial skin in the game for this season. This does not bode well for the season being played. Think of how easy it is to call off a few day-of-game bus trips compared to eating 100k for the cost of a charter flight. The Patriot League just positioned itself so that when do they do finally cancel their season it has the logistical simplicity of high schools deciding not to play a Friday night game on account of lightening.
Re: D1 football in the fall?
looking at this more closely, football is really in a pickle, 9/3 game at Nova does not work, bus trip to Cross with no overnight does not work (unless a red eye) even if a later date is available, Gate to Lehigh problematic as we don't have lights for a late start time, St Francis might work if they have lights for a late start time, 2 week camp might work but be ugly, even worse for Hoyas/Gate and Hoyas/Cross

And given what has happened in states that have opened ... who knows? Plan for the worst, hope for the best.
