Malyke Hines
Malyke Hines
We're all wondering just how good Malyke Hines really is? It appears as if he has significant skills but his collegiate body of work is so slim that it's really difficult to tell.
Beating Trampe "up" at 141 lbs. and giving Pitt's Phillippi a good battle at 133 lbs. makes him the biggest mystery man on this years team.
I guess it's possible he could pull some shocking upsets at NCAA's.

Re: Malyke Hines
Although I think Hines will surprise people, I also wonder if Jaret Lane can be the next Brandon Paetzell. Like BP, Lane has made the move down to 125 and after a slow beginning, he has looked dominating going 5-0 with 3 falls. I think his length at this weight will make him a handful and he came to Lehigh with a big reputation as a pinner.
Re: Malyke Hines
Team could be pretty tough at the EIWAs with Lane, Hines, Pretzel at the bottom and Jakobsen and Wood at the top. Middle five are the question marks.
Re: Malyke Hines
Middle Five: Lehigh, Laf Buck, Gettysburg, Delaware - Football Rider was in tat Group for Bktball
assuming no Ruth at 184, Davis looked decent
174 Logan needs to put it together
165 Meyer not quite last year, lawrence not quite as hoped yet
157 MB4 seems to have a stronger upside than the others
149 Hoffman, see Meyer

Re: Malyke Hines
My concern with Jaret Lane is he gives up the legs too easily, he's made that work against average D1 guys, not sure how that will work against the "top tier" guys, that said he's been fun to watch.
Paetzell is more of a sound defense, constant movement looking for a shot kind of guy, tends to translate better against top wrestlers.

"Gives up legs too easily." Seems to be a common refrain vis-a-vis the team.
Re: Malyke Hines
Certainly agree that is a concern in this short season but in no way would I agree that Hines or Lane is in that group. Lane and Hines is the refreshing group of new wrestlers that have shown the way for this new season. Let’s give credit where credit is due.
Re: Malyke Hines
Agree with mh1...Hines hit a sweet 4 point move (Peterson) wrestling up a weight against a ranked Trampe and I believe got the first takedown against Phillipi in I believe his first Varsity dual.
Lane has dominated most of the guys he faced...and frankly probably doesn’t mind as much when they get to his legs...has them right where he wants them. Albeit this becomes a bit more problematic against the top guys.
