Impressive wins

Post by Justafan » Sun Feb 18, 2024 1:06 pm

Baseball doesn't get a lot of foot traffic on here but Lehigh just put together a pair of pretty impressive wins.

They defeated Michigan St. yesterday 2-0 and beat #20 Iowa 8-4 this morning.

It is not often that Lehigh defeats 2 Big 10 (?) schools in 24 hours in any sport.

Hard to remember LU beating a Big Ten in any sport besides wrestling.

First two for baseball??

In any other sports?

We can't, the Big 10 refuses to schedule us and now I see why. :-)

I see Alabama is not playing our softball team this year. Ducking us? :-)

This is the 1st Big 10 win for baseball since 2008 when they beat Penn State 3-1 in 9 innings.

Men's soccer has beaten Big10 opponents in the not too distant past.

In 2019, Soccer almost pulled a double Big 10 win by beating Rutgers 1-0 and losing to Wisconsin 2-1.

Before that we go back to 2008-2009, when we beat Penn State 2-1. Note we beat Penn State in baseball, soccer and wrestling in a period of 10 months.

Farther back We beat PSU in LaCrosse, Swimming, Ice Hockey (before their 80 million dollar endowment), and of course rifle.

It was actually a double in 2019. Men's soccer beat Rutgers and Northwestern that season, plus the close loss against Wisconsin.

I think lacrosse has won a couple games against the Big 10, and I wouldn't be surprised if softball has, as well. I think gravity has also finally caught up with the baseball team. "Chuck South" took two out of three this weekend.
