Lafayette announced, 35-years ago today, it would drop its wrestling team effective immediately in order to add a women's soccer program in the 1989-90 school year.

The program was started in 1924, and becomes at least the 46th to drop wrestling in the 1980's.

The 1980's streak was begun in 1978 by Bear Bryant at Alabama. He said the U could not afford the team. SOB.
